A petition to the General As sembly was circulated here this week to revoke the charter of he Town of Roper, and while many or our best citizens signed it, it is not generally taken se riously, but regarded by some as a joke. The petition gave no reason why the charter should be annulled and some who signed same have already expressed rer gret at their action wnich sub jects them to criticism of more conservative element in our corr munity. Such action would be a step backward, if not a calamT ity. The regular monthly Social meeting of the Ep worth League was held at the Graded School Annex last Friday evening and proved a most delightful affair, being largely attended by the young people of the neighbor hood.
