OF INTEREST to FARMERS
Mr. N. H. Smith, the official
'cotton grader of New. Bern, was
here Saturday a;?d . made a trip
through some sections of this
county with the writer, and
supplies were distributed to gin
ners for the purpose of sending
samples of cotton to 1 the New
Bern office- Several bales were
sampled on the route, and Mr.
Smiih pronounced it to be very
good.
If you want your ginned cot
ton graded, either see your local
ginner or communicate with mc.
This can be arranged within a
short Mne. In fact, you., .should
get terms from a grader within
three days after , sampleS:j;have
been mailed to any point in' the
county. If there is any part
about cotton grading work you
fail to understand, get in touch
with me or. Mr. Smith.
Why not have an olncial cotton
weigher? If you a re interested
in such a thing lets see wh.it cm
be done. Several buyers and
merchants are interested in this
matter, and vwh your co-opera-
tion a weigher tan b.?. be secured
Will you co-operate?

A recent trip in the ;e;sicni
half of the state in which ovtr a
thousand hives of bees were
seen, showed that many swarms
w.l! enter the winter with scant
supplies, ani must be fed in or
der to be strong in the spring,
and this is highly important so
that they may take fully advan
tage of the honey-flow. The
past year has not been very suc
cessful, though some of the
more skillful bee-keepers -made
satisfactory crops of honey.
Skill and knowledge pay in bee
keeping same as in other lines
of business.
No Cotton Boll-Weevil in
North Carolina.
Raleigh. N. C, Oct. 7, 1916.
-At this season every year
farmers find that many cotton
bolls are not opening as expect
ed, and in searching for a cause,
they notice insects or diseases
which they have not seen before.
Onlytoo' often such "discover
ies" are reported to local papers
are given publicity under suspi
cion that the "Cotton Boll-weevil"
is doing the damage.
Mr. Franklin Sherman, Ento
mologist in the Siate Department
of Agricnlture at Raleigh wishes
to emphasize the fact that whil
such reports have been currei
each autumn for over twelv
years, and while-he has ident

"After suffering for ten years
from indigestion, my wife got so
bad that to eat solid foods was
out of the question. The slight
est noise would disturb her and
night after night she would lay
awake sleep refusing to come.
Then too, she suffered from se
vere pains in the side. Although
she was prescribed for her con
dition grew warse. Then we;
heard of Tanlac." The speaker
was W. C. Aldridge, well known'
High Point .resident. "Now,!

made such a change in Mrs. Al
