home last Saturday to stay ur

Chapel Hill School to Open.
Chanel Hill school, near Ply
mouth, will open on Wednesday ,
August 15th. with Miss Edna
Moore of Southport, N. C, as
principal, assisted by Miss Min
nie Hunt of Lexington.
Both these young ladies come
well recommended. The patrons
of the school should do their best
to co-operate with the youn
ladies in their efforts to give the
highest amount of service to
. the children.

On Tuesday evening at the
home of Miss Gladys Norman a

and refreshments were features
of the well spent evening.

Mrs. Harriett Woodard
Dead.
Mrs. Harriett Woodard, aged
78 years, cLed at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. L. S. Landing in
this town on Friday night last.
Mrs. Woodard was the daugh
ter of the late Col. Harry Down
ing, a family closely identified
with the early history of Wash
ington County, especially with
old Lee's Mills, which property
he once owned and operated.
Mrs Woodard had been in ail
ing health for some time and her
death, while sad was net a sur
prise to her friends. She leaves
one son, two daughters and many
friends to grieve for her.
The remains were buried in old
St. Luke's cemetery, near Roper
Sunday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Kel-
sey, her rector, conducting the
servbes

Mr, John D. Nurnev Dead.
Mr. J t hn DJ Nurney died at
his home m tnis town on Wed
nesday nicjht at 8:30 o'clock, af
ter a long and painful illneis,
aged about 70 years.
Mr. Nurney was one of Ply
mouth's oldest citizens, and had
been for years a true and faith
ful member of the Baptist
church. He leaves a wife and
one son and a host of relatives
and friends to mourn his de
parture.
The interment was made this
morningin the Baptist burying
ground at 10:00 o'clock, the bur
ial being conducted by his pas
tor, Rev. Mr. Myer& in the pres
ence of many of nis old friends.
