False Fire Alarm
Last night about eight
o'clock the fire company and
a large number of citizens
were thrown into confusion
by an alarm of fire that wai
bewildering to locate.
The driver of the truck was
first of the impression that the
fire was on East Main street,
and not being able to locate
a blaze in that neighborhood
gained information that the
conflagation was in Brinkley
hotel. They immediately
hastened to that place, stret
ched a line of hose and began
a hunt tor the fire, which has
not, as we go to pi ess, yet
been located. The telephone
operator gave information
that the alarm was sent, from C
the hotel, but as yet the per<4
son who sent the alarm has
not been foc-nd.
The fire company is eager
to respond and do all in their
power in each case of an alarm
as has been repeatedly de
monstrated, but people should
have enough regard for the ;
company to call them only
when their services are requ- 1
ired. There is considerable 1
work in stretching a line of '
hose and then replacing it in
the truck.

in the town treasury Tuesday

the barrooms.
Mr. W< J. Jackson is complet
ing his residence on Third street
In placing his front fence we
notice that he has given the side
walk 18 inches and let the gate
inside, which is a decided im

The residence of Mr. K. Garret
a farmer near this town, caught
fire Saturday night, and but for
the timely discovery and hard
wrk it would have been 'con

Mias Dean Jackson met with
the sad misfortune of having her
wrist sprained by being thrown
from a buggy Saturday.
The burning of a half barrel
of tar on Water street Tuesday

Quietly Married.
It came as quite a surprise to
our people to learn that M r.
Donovan G. Davis and M pp
Fannie Blount had been marriec
last Sunday night.
The wedding occured in thr
home of Mr. Jack Reid at nin<
o'clock. Only a few very intimate
friends of the contracting parties
were present, and the service
was conducted by Rev. W. G.
Lowe, of the Methodist church,
the ring ceremony of that faith
being used.
The groom conducts a prosper
ous Jew dry business here, and
came to Plymouth from Bertie

war and has been identified with
his present business since that
time. He is highly intelligent and
held in high esteem here.

Christian Women.
That we cherish the memory
of her faithfulness and extend to
her husband and son and rela
