THE ROANOKE BEACON PLYMOUTH, N. C., FEBRUARY 27, 1925 } I C. S, AUSBON, EDITOR C V. W. AUSBON Community Interest - Figure as you will, you can't get away from the idea of co .immunity interest. We who consititute the local com* munity are intensely dependent on one another. When we buy our merchandise from out-of-town concerns, we take that much business away from local business firms. If enough business is withdrawn from them, they’ll eventually have to quit. Then Plymouth would shrivel up. Clerks and laborers and tradesman would have to move away. That would directly affect the value of our homes and farms. Then, who would pay the taxes that support our public institutions, build and maintain our streets and roads and pay the interest on public indebtedness already incurred? Our self-interest, the safety of our pioperty investments de mand that we trade at home and support our local business men. If anyone thinks he can refute this argument, we will give a year’s subscription to The Roanoke Beacon for a logical argument in favor of trading with mail ordjr houses. We have continually tried to persuade the people of this county to exhaust the offers of the local market in an endeavor to have their wants satisfied, and to order goods only as a last resort. Of course, there are many articles that cannot be found in the stores of local merchants and then it becomes necessary for the purchaser t6 look elsewhere for the article he needs. Suppose, however, that everbody were to try their local businessmen first. Pretty soon these mer chants would realize that they would have to enlarge their stocks, and the result would be that practially all your wants could be filled right here at home. It is a duty all of us owe to our community. That’s the way to keep community spirit alive. LOCAL NEWS. Mr. E. D, Carstarphen is at home after a commercial trip through several states. Messrs.
