The Roanoke Beacon published | Friday, December 21, 1894 On Monday afternoon Master Arthur Chesson, a student of Plymouth high school, fell from a tree in the Methodist church yard a distance of twenty feet or more, falling on a tombstone breaking two ribs and receiving other painful injuries. Thomas J. Marriner, present incumbent, lias been appointed superior court clerk to fill the vacancy in this county, The street in front of the town hall had on quite a lively appearance last Saturday after noon. Two auctioneers crying at the same time, police Tucker selling furniture, and sheriff Blount selling horses. The mills at Roper will be shut down during Christmas week re pairing, etc. Grant Billings, brakeman on the N. S- railroad, was badly crushed at Roper while coupling cars last Saturday.
