Eotere 1 ,\s sec >ni-c!as3 mail matter at the Postoffice Plymouth, Nor h Carolina, under the act of March 3rd, 1887. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 28, 1928 City Council's New Year Town officials should be commended for the wisdom used in the ad ministration of the affairs of this municipality during the current cal endar year as the records show that the town will enter upon the new year with its affairs in very good condition as far as finances is con cerned. Information gleaned from the records go to show that much interest is being manifested by l he officials in managing the affairs of the town in just an efficient manner as possible in compatibility with economy. During the last year of the present City Council's execution of the affairs of the town there has been drastic reduction in the tax rate which was occassioned by an economical administration and correct usage of the money entrusted to its care by the citizens. An $1,800 wharf has been partly erected in order to take care of the large vessels that are likely to come in here if the mouth of the Roanoke River is dredged and made possible for traffic by the huge trading vessels. There are many and numerous tilings that go to make up the splen did record made by these officials in the discharge of their duty for the city. The ones named above only display the most important achieve ments. It is hoped that from now until next \ ay they will use the same safe and sound judgement ns they have in the past they will more likely empress their feilowrrwn and they w ll be reelected. _rm_ Special Service A Blessing That special service which was held at thr Christian Church last evening in honor of the Rev J R. Everett, pastor of the local Bap tist Church who has resigned to take up post-graduate work in a de nominational seminary, speaks weli for the young minister and mani fests the esteem in which he was held by citizens of another denomi nation in the city. No better method of displaying the Christian spirit could have been devised by any persons for the commemoration of t’- hivemcn s of die minister ahile in the city than this method. co i. goes without saying ta«.i the local church folk are united in their endeavor to benefit the community In thus bidding the young minister an appropriate good-bye the church folk have blessed them selves while blessing others No way could be demonstrated that would make the minister feel any more kindly toward them than in ' thus publicly sending him away with the spirit of interest in his future endeavors' This deed will work together for the best interest of all concerned.
