1 AN t THE WASHINGTON COUNTY NEWS Published Every Friday in Plymouth, North Carolina LEE ROY HARRIS,.Publisher and Editor $1.50 A YEAR 7~i SIX MONTHS Address all communications to the Roanoke Beacon, Plymouth, N, C. Entered as secon d-class mail matter at the Postoflice. Plymouth, North Carolina, under the act of March 3rd, 1SS7. FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 1929 Not Too Late! It is not too late for the County Commissioners to redeem themselves from the outrageous mistake that they made recently in the purchase of the Owens property on which to place the Negro school. Som; seem to think that the deal is closed. It is not. No tran saction is ever closed until someone has received something and Chair man J. C. Spruill told a representative of the Beacon and News Tuesday that he had never received any property from anyone for the purpose of building a Negro school or anything else on. The Beacon and News pleads to the County Commissioners to reconsider what they hav edcne. Give the public some consideration People from Roper, Crcswell, Wenona, Mackeys, in fact from all over the county elected you to operate this $15,000,000 organization for them and you, honorable commissioners, owe to them some considera tion. Don't allow the petty jealosies of a few to guide you in this the most important thing that has ever come before you. The rights of a people is being considered —what are you going to do with them? There is one thing more that the Beacon and News would like to call to the attention of the honorable board of Couty Commis sioners: the Wenona roads. Those people over in the Wenona section are a part of Washington county and pay their prorata part of the taxes paid in the county treasure They want a road. 25 of them went before you. Mr. County Commissioners last.Monday with a peti tion signed by 97 per cent of the population in that section asking that you give the road: to some person in that section to look our for. What did you do? You deliberately listened to them talk and in a friendly way present their petition and wants and then you deliberate ly forgot that they existed, or rather there isn’t even any mention made in the minutes of their having called. Wenona needs and should have some consideration! &msB%sgms!8Ei&M£mm^*m!£&a^ a-ssesBaessssa* W A XT ISO IT OX Cl 4 7 ^ • EXPERIENCED AUTO MECHANIC Report at Once to Beacon and News Permanent work fcr right man STRAGLERS NEED NOT APPLY ...
