those loyal friends who supported me and helped nominate me in the
Democratic primary Saturday.
If elected in November. 1 shall endeavor to serve to the best of
my ability and will be open and ready to listen to opinions and con
structive criticism from those people in the county who have the wel
fare of the county at heart.
Our meetings will be open and the people are urged to attend.
And, also, we wish to keep the people of the county informed as to
the condition of our county through the papers and otherwise.

Mrs. Midgett Hostess

Mrs. H. S. Midgett was a most
charming hostess on Saturday evening
June 2, when Hie graciously entertain
ed the members of her Round-Dozen
Contract bridge club at her home on
Washington Street. For the occasion
the interior of the residence was made
attractive by a profusion of bright
summer flowers gracefully arranged.
During an interesting game. Mrs.
W F. \\ inslovv made high score for
the club, Mrs. A. L. Alexander high
for the guests, and Mrs Zeb Vance ,
Xorman received consolation. To all
were awarded most attractive prizes.
Immediately after the game the
hostess was assisted in serving a froz
en salad plate with iced tea to the
club and to Mesdames Move W.
Spruill, Zeb Vance Xorman, A. L.
Alexander, and J. R. Campbell as
special guests.
Surprise Party
Lovely in every detail was the sur
prise birthday party Sunday afternoon
Riven at the home of Miss Martha
Dixon on the Long Ridge Road by
her niece, Mrs. John Carlisle. After
the crowd sane a birthday sour, a
large white basket was brought in by
Miss Cornelia Carlisle and Samuel
Carlisle and presented to the honorce.
It was laden with many beautiful
gifts.
The last gift that was opened was
a beautiful white birthday cake with
the name of the honoree on it. This
was presented by her niece.
After much fun and merriment, the
guests were invited into the dining
room, where delicious refreshments
were served by the hostess to 33 per
sons.
