Landing and son, Harry, of Norfolk, are spending a few days here with their family. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Ramsey, Mes da'mes Harry R. Livers and W. F. Ausbon and Miss Miriam A. Walden spent the week-end at Nags Head at the Log Cabin Inn as the guests of Miss Claudia Sanderlin. Misses Martha Mayo and Thelma Getsinger spent their vacation at Nags Head last week. They were joined over the week-end by Messrs. Bill Clagon and George Barden. Mrs. Allen T. Leary, of Goldsboro, spent the week-end with Mrs. FT G. Arps. Mesdames Stewart Davis and P. M. Arps and Misses Ethel and Evelyn Arps motored to Richmond Monday. Mrs. Hubert A. Chesson and chil dren, of Richmond, are spending some time here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Sanderson. Mesdames William Whitehead and Gibbs, of Eastern Shore, Md., are spending a few days here with rela tives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Rankin Ambrose, of Wilmington, Del., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Lilley in Wash ington. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Smith and Sew ell Norman, of Goldsboro, spent the week-end here with their parents. Miss Margaret Ayers, of New Bern, is spending her vacation here with her parents. C., are spending a few weeks at home. -$ Legion Auxiliary -$ Mrs.Claudius McGowan charmingly entertained the American Legion Aux iliary at her East Main Street home Tuesday. The living room was dec orated with lovely flowers. The meet ing was called to order by the presi dent, Mrs. W. V. Hays. Report- were given by the different officers. Officers for the new year are: Mrs. \V. V. Hays, president; Mrs. C. Mc Gowan, vice president: Mrs. James Swain, secretary; Mrs. D. A. Hurley, treasurer; Mrs. H. A. Williford, his torian: Mrs. C. V. W. Ausbon, chap lain; Mrs. Zeno Lyon, sergeant at arms. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Zeno Lyon and Mrs Jim Swain, served a delicious salad course during the so cial hour. The next meeting will be held at the Legion Hall the fourth Friday afternoon in October, at 3:.30. Any eligible person wishing to join is urged to attend this t meting. -$ Albemarle Club Meets Skinnersville.—The Albemarle club met at the home of Mrs. Tom White Wednesday afternoon with 7 members present. After the business session, the meet ing was turned over to Miss Eugenia Patterson, home demonstration agent, who gave a demonstration on canning corn. She also told of the postpone ment of the short course at Raleigh and the 4-H club meeting on account of infantile paralysis. Mrs. White, the hostess, served ba nanas. No place has been designated for the August meeting. SKINNERSVILLE —*— Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Owens, of Columbia, were the guests of Mr. anil Mrs. Walter White Sunday afternoon Mrs. M. J. Elliott is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Milton Elliott in Suffolk. Mrs. Lillie Everett, Mr. and Mrs. Tom White and sons, Thomas and Billie, Mrs. C. V'. C. Craft Mrs. Davenport Hostess -® The home of Mrs. Edison Daven port was the scene of a most delight ful social affair Tuesday, when she entertained jointly with Mr Edward S. Blount at a sumptuous luncheon honoring her cousin (Miss Carrie Smith, of Tallahassee, Ma. In a beautifully appointed dining room the table was spread with a dinty lace luncheon clot 11 and places laid for eight guests. A silver bowl filled with exquisite pink verbena formed the centerpiece, while masses of choice cut flowers were used on the buffet, auxiliary tables and else where in the room. A delectable two course luncheon was served. Those enjoying the affair were Miss Annie Cahoon, of Washington City; Miss Carrie Smith, of Florida; Mesdames H. A. Williford, Robert W. Johnson, Sidney A. Ward, Edison Davenport, and Edward S. Blount. -® Visitor Is Honored -® A charming courtesy was extended Miss Carrie Smith, of Tallahassee, Fla., Tuesday evening, when Mrs. Z. G. I.yon entertained a few friends and the sisters of the honoree at contract bridge. Mrs. Corrinnc Austine was winner of high score and received a novel prize, while.to Miss Carrie Smith was presented a box of dusting powder as guest prize, and Mrs. H. A. Williford was presented the traveling prize. A delightful refreshing beverage was served during the game, followed by luscious ice cream and cake at the conclusion of the play. Those present were Mesdames Sid ney A. Ward, Robert W. Johnston, C. W. Cahoon, Corrinne Austin, FI. A. Williford, C. J. Norman, Mrs. R. P. Hammond, of Daytona Beach, Fla , and Miss Smith. Cherry Club Meeting -® The Cherry Club was delightfully entertained by Mrs. J. T. Davis and Misses Ida and Blanche Davis Tues day. Miss Patterson explained why the short courses would not he held this year. The clothing leader reported 108 garments and 1 quilt since our last meeting. The canning leader reported 796 quarts and 13 1-2 pints of fruits and vegetables canned since June. Miss Patterson’s demonstration was on can ning. The hostess served lemonade, ice cream and cake. The August meeting will he held with Mrs. H. D. Craddock. -® PLEASANT GROVE <s> Mrs. Nona Holloman and Kenneth Holloman have returned to Norfolk after spending some time here with relatives. VV. B. Chessott and Miss Louise Chcsson accompanied Miss Frances Chesson to Roanoke Rapids Sunday, where she will spend some time with Miss Nancy Glover. Mrs. VV. W. Mrs. Bessie Howard and daughter, Eleanor Nell, of Cherokee, are visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fate Williams. -a Continued Steady Increase in Farm Income Over 1934 Figures Show Steady Climb During First 5 Months Of This Year -- Farmers’ ca.-h income from sales of farm products and government bene fit payments totaled $520,000,000 dur ing May, compared with $506,000,000 in April, and with $438,000,000 in May a year ago, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. The cumulative total January to May, inclusive, this year was $2,423, 000,000 against $2,137,000,000 in the same five months of 1934. Of the to tal this year, $2,167,000,000 #was in come from marketings and the re mainder, $256,000,000 from benefit pay ments. This was a monthly average in benefit payments of slightly more than 5 millions as against 29 millions per month last year. The cash income from sales of farm products in May was $484,000,000, as compared with $457,000,000 in April and $442,000,000 in May, 1934. De spite a four point decline in farm prices between May 15 and June 15, it is estimated the June income will far exceed the $410,000,000 received in June of last year.
