The Thanksgiving Season
N'ext month brings Thanksgiving, which is a feast
worthy of our attention—not so much because we ex
pect to feast on turkey ana rich gravy but because
we have received so many rich blessings from our
God and from our neighbors. It should give us pause
to think how weak we are alone, being dependent for
almost every blessine upon others than ourselves.
Thanksgiving is a season that should remind us of
our duty to do something for others. \\ e think of
the hungry, poor, and needy; the orphan, especially
comes before our eves, with the chalenge that we
need to divide our blessings with those less fortunate
than we. The country has gathered fair harvests dur
ing the year, and nature has blessed us with a suf
ficiencv that all may eat and live, provided we see
that a fair distribution is made to all the people.
Many times we figure that all the corn we gather is
ours because we planted it and gathered it. But if
we take proper thought, we will find that the land is
not ours: that the principal elements of the harvest
are not ours: that we are only tenants and occupants
by the power of that over which we have no domin
ion. Therefore, we cannot rightly claim all of our
possessions, but a part of all we have should go to
others.
So let us enter the Thanksgiving -eason with a
determination to meet in the proper spirit of helpful- ;
ness to all mankind.

Crooks Flock To Large Assemblies
The Miami city authorities have an ordinance re
quiring every person visiting the city who has a previ
ous court record to register at police headquarters,
giving name, home residence and a history of all
crimes for which he has been convicted or charged.
A 90-dav prison sentence or a $500 fine may be im
posed for failure to comply with this ordinance.
Many crooks are following visitors to resots. They
go as hoterl and restaurant waiters, or perhaps as ex
perienced policemen, enabling them to get the lay of
the land and pass the information over to confeder
ates who make the raids where the most money is on
hand.
They are also following big assemblies everywhere.
It is always a good plan to lock up your diamonds,
silverware and other valuables when shows come to
town, because there are so many prowlers usually
following along.
Of course, most folks know it is safer to keep their
money in the bank, and everybody outside of an asy
lum knows that when a man comes to you with some
trick and tries to persuade you to play with him so
you will make some easy money is both a liar and
a robber. So beware of too many kind friends that
try to do too much for you. The country was never
i so full of thieves as it is now. They are only seeking
some opportunity to beat you out of your money or
! valuables.
