Services Announced By Methodist Pastor -$ Rev. WADE JOHNSON Pastor Youth's Day " will be observed at I the Methodist Church Sunday morn ing at 11 o'clock. The service will be in charge of the young people, with Walter Burgess the speaker for the hour. The Rev P B Nickens will be the preacher at the 5:45 vespers, and Rev. N. A. Taylor will bring a message in song. Mr. Taylor will sing "The Blind Plowman " After Sunday the ves per services will be suspended until the first Sunday in September. Mr. J. Johnson believes counties and munic Hampton Reappointed To State Conservation Board W R. Hampton has received noti fication from Governor Clyde R Hoey of his reappointment to membership on the board of the North Carolina Department of Conservation and De velopment. Hating already served for two years. Mr. Hampton's new appoint ment is for six years, his term of of fice expiring in June. 1945 Well known throughout the state as a commercial fisherman. Mr. Hampton's knowledge of this work is highly regarded bv state officials. The Hampton family has operated the Kitty Hawk and Slade fisheries on Roanoke River near here for almost a century. ipalities should participate for the benefit of their employees. Mr. Johnson is chairman of a five man committee authorized by the 1939 General Assembly to study the feasibility of establishing a retire ment system for school teachers and other state employees, and he will recommend that counties and munic ipalities be included in the study. The commission will report to the governor before July 1. 1940. so that its findings may be considered by the advisory budget commission and pos sibly be included in the 1941-43 bien nial budget. Newspaper Group To Hold July Meet Here At its monthly meeting in Ahoskie last Saturday night, the Northeastern North Carolina Weekly Newspaper Association accepted an invitation to hold its July meeting at the Plym outh Country Club on Saturday. July 8. A dinner meeting and business session will be held at 8 o'clock. The association is composed of the weekly newspaper publishers and workers in Hertford. Gates, North ampton, Halifax. Bertie.
