the funeral of Mr. S. D. Jones in
Mountain Lakes, N. J.. Sunday. Mr.
Campbell returned home Monday
evening, while Mrs. Campbell and
Miss Campbell will not return for
two weeks.

HOSTESS TUESDAY
Mrs. M. J. Polk charmingly enter
tained at a dessert bridge at her
home in the village Tuesday after
noon at 1:30. honoring her sister,
Mrs. J. S. Stanley, of Charlotte.
The Polk home was artistically dec
orated with mixed flower arrange
ments. On each table there were
miniature vases containing candy;
mints in little umbrellas were used as
favors. Later in the afternoon punch
was served.
Those playing the six progressions
of bridge were Mesdames L. S. Thomp
son. W. C. Moeller, C. McGowan. Ben
Sumner, S. A. Ward. sr„ H. A. Wil
liford. C. E. Ayers, L. C. Odenath. T.

Mrs. Thompson, as high scorer, was
presented a pair of embroidered pil
low cases. A piece of pottery was
given to Mrs. Moeller as the traveling
prize, and the guest. Mrs. Stanley,
also received a gift.

The Cross Road Home Demonstra
tion Ciub met at tire home of Mrs.
N. W. Spruill Tuesday afternoon with
15 members present.
Two new members, Mrs. Edison
Watson and Miss Lyndell Lewis, were
enrolled.
Mrs. D. R. Chesson opened the pro
gram. which was participated in by
Mrs. Irving Watson. Mrs. P. C. Tar
kington. Mrs. K. J. Chesson. Mrs. C.
J. Davidson, and Mrs. A. L. Watson.
Miss Jennie Brinkley assisted the
hostess in serving delicious ice cream
and cake.
The next meeting will be held with
Mrs. P. C. Tarkington.

underwent in Parkview Hospital
where she has been a patient for
about ten days.
