Setters for League
Locals Divide Series With
Windsor After Knocking
Leaders Off Twice
-•
Failure of the Rocks to take advan
tage of a fifth place club dividing a
series with Windsor last week-end
left Plymouth clinging to third place
in the first division one and a half
games ahead of Scotland Neck their
chief competitor for this place.
But today the Rocks were eyeing
second place with an envious atti
tude realizing that they are only one
full game behind Edenton which
seems to have cinched the second
post and three and a half games be
hind Perrytown. the league leaders.
Knocking off Perrytown twice in
their series with them the Rocks were
getting somewhere until they bowed
to the lowly Lions of Windsor there
Saturday 10 to 9 in a slug-fest.
As it stood Monday of this week.
Plymouth was in third place with a
percentage of .591 having won 13 and
lost 9 in league play.

first of the week. W. A. Davidson is
leading the class B players with a
gross score of 45-45—90. less 16
stroke handicap, net of 74 or even
par. Ray Goodmon got hot Sunday
and turned in a couple of good
rounds Sunday in the class A list,
shooting 38-38—76. which with his
12-stroke handicap, gives him a net
of 64, or 10 under par. None of the
class C players have turned in cards
for the complete 18 holes yet. al
though seevral have played the first
nine.
The classes are divided as follows:
Players with handicaps from 0 to 19,
class A; players with handicaps from
20 to 29. class B: and players with
handicaps of 30 and over, class C.
Prizes will be awarded the winners in
each class, the value to be determined
later by the golf committee.
No special event is being planned
for the Fourth of July next Tues
day. as many of the players are usu
ally out of town on this holiday, and
it was not felt sufficient interest
| could be worked up to make a tour
nament worth while.
Mr. Maples has done considerable
work on the greens during the past
couple of weeks, and they are rapid
ly rounding into fine condition, better
now than they have ever before. He
expects them to show even further
improvement within another week or
10 days.

Frontier Feud in
Saturday Show
-<s>
A frontier feud that began in Texas
and ended bloodily in a tittle Arizona
town, comprises the dramatic basis
of Harry Carey's new screen vehicle,
‘The Law West of Tombstone” at
the Plymouth Theatre, Saturday.
The feud lies between Carey, in
the role of the braggart but dead
shot Bill Barker, and the McQuinn
brothers, a trio of would-be desper
adoes. Coming to the boiling point
shortly after the story opens, the
quarrel carries on through the color
ful efforts of Barker to establish him
self as mayor, judge and jury of west
ern Arizona, and winds up in a gra
phic and breathless gun duel in the
streets of the little frontier com
munity.
Against this grim background is
played a sparkling romance betwen
a young gun-fighter whom Barker has
taken under his wing and Barker’s
daughter, who believes herself an or
phan whose father was killed at
Gettysburg.

Jane Withers Here
In Piciure Sunday
If Jane Withers can be considered
and accomplished character analyst,
then 16-year-old George Ernest, fa
miliar to many screen fans as Roger
of the Jones Family, should be a very
flattered young man.
George holds the honor of being
Jane’s first scren “crush," appearing
with the popular star in her latest
20th century-Fox comedy, "Boy
Friend,’’ due Sunday at the Plymouth
Theatre.
One sequence of the picture calls
for George to escort Jane to a mas
querade ball and, at Jane's request.
Director James Tinling allowed her
to select the costume George should
wear.
The morning of the cinematic
masquerade George retired to his
dressing room and discovered Jane's
selection—a George Washington cos
tume!
