ADDITIONAL SOCIAL NEWS MOUNT TABOR AID SOCIETY MEETING The Mount Tabor Ladies' Aid So ciety held its December meeting with Mrs. D. H. Furlough, the president calling the meeting to order. There were 10 members and one visitor present and the collection totaled $1.30. Reports were received of var ious activities since the preceding meeting. This being the final meeting of the current year, officers for 1940 were elected as follows: President. Mrs. Hence Phelps: vice president. Mrs. C. J. Phelps: secretary. Mrs. S. D. Phelps; corresponding secretary. Mrs. Alton Furlough: treasurer, L. A. Am brose; publicity and literature chair man. Mrs. Sarah Holmes; education. Mrs. T. F. Davenport: missions. Mrs. I. W. Furlough: orphanage director, Mrs. D. H. Furlough: stewardship, Mrs. J. E. Furlough; superannuation. Mrs. C. J. Haire: field worker. Mrs. B. H. Phelps. The annual report submitted by the secretary showed the following: Members on roll, 15; number sick visits made, 117: flowers taken to sick, 11: trays taken to sick. 57; quarts milk given to sick, 84: chap ter reported read in Bible. 1.298; money raised by dues. $17.63; birth day dues. $2.89; money raised in oth er ways. $27.48. The society will hold its January meeting with Mrs. J. E. Furlough. The hostess served a salad plate and a hot beverage. AID SOCIETY MEETS AT PLEASANT GROVE Pleasant Grove.—Mrs. J. C. Tar kenton was hostess to the Pleasant Grove Ladles' Aid Society Wednesday afternoon. The living room was beautifully decorated to emphasize the approach ing Christmas season. Mrs. J. C. Tarkenton presided, with the Rev. Mr. Gardner leading the de votional, and reports were made by the several committees. It was voted to donate $5 to the parsonage iri Roper. Mrs. W. B. Chesson gave a reading and Mrs. William Phelps read a poem. Mrs. W. A. Swain also read a poem. During the social hour, presents were drawn from a lovely appointed table with a miniature Christmas tree furnishing the illumination. The, hostess served a delicious course of syllabub and fruit cake, and favors were presented the guests, attractive little sacks of candy with Santa Claus attached bringing th egood wishes for Christmas. Afterwards the pastor, Rev Mr. Gardner, and Mrs. Gardner were pre sented a huge basket and a Santa Claus sack of groceries and fruits. The January meeting will be held with Mrs. W. W. White. | DISTRICT MEET | vy The district meeting: of the American Legion Auxiliary will be held here in the community building Thursday, December 14. Mrs. Weaver Mann, of Newton, the state president, will make the principal address, and Miss Au relia Adams, her secretary, will also be present. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p. m. MRS. LEGGETT IS HOSTESS TO CLUB Mrs. Raymond Leggett was hostess to her bridge club Friday evening. Mrs. Roy L. Swain was a guest and was given a prize. Mrs. W. L. Whit ley won the high score award, a tiny crystal basket inlaid with silver. The bingo prize won was by Mrs. Walter Clark. The hostess served a sweet course. PLEASANT GROVE Mrs. W. B. Miss Emily Brinkley, Mrs. Joe Smith and Mrs. Leroy Bateman hostesses. Mrs. W. M. Darden and Mrs. W. H. Joyner were in charge of the pro gram. Mrs. Woodrow Collins played several piano selections. The club joined in singing Christmas carols. Several contests were directed by Mrs. Darden and Mrs. Joyner. In one contest all lights were turned out and each person was told to draw a turkey on a piece of paper and to write "Merry Christmas" underneath it. Mrs. O. L. Hardwick, the club's new member, was winner of the prize. Much merriment was occasioned by the drawing of white elephant gifts. Christinas presents were exchanged by the members of the club. Hand-made yearbooks were distrib uted and the business session was dispersed with. Hand-painted favors were used for place cards at the refreshment ta ble, which was beautifully decorated with burning red candles grouped around a Christmas centerpiece made of glistening pine burrs and holly. Refreshments carrying out the Christmas motif w'ere served. STEWARDS OF ROPER CHARGE IN MEET Pleasant Grove.—A stewards' meet ing for the Roper Methodist charge was held at Pleasant Grove Sunday afternoon, with nine of the stewards present, as follows: Messrs. Ernest Lewis, Prank Wilson. Henry Williams and Leon McAllister, of Roper; Ellis Davenport, Paul Belanga, H. R. Dav enport and Mrs. H. R. Davenport, of Creswell: Mrs. W. B. Chesson and Mrs. J. C. Tarkenton. of Pleasant Grove. Mackeys did not have a rep resentative. Rev. M. R. Gardner, pastor of the charge, gave an interesting talk and outlined plans for the year’s work. Mr. Gardner also stated that prior to each quarterly conference, there would be a stewards meeting for the charge, with the next meeting to be held at Creswell.
