BIRTHDAY PARTY
Miss Lillian Reid McGowan cele
brated her birthday anniversary on
Friday evening when she entertained
a few of her friends at a four-course
dinner, the menu consisting of grape
gruit juice, chicken, ham, mashed
potatoes, peas. yams, asparagus, hot
biscuits, cramberry sauce, coffee,
pineapple salad, ice cream and cake.
The table was centered with a
birthday cake: Valentines were used
as place cards.
The honoree received pretty gifts
which she displayed prior to her
taking her guests to the Plymouth
Theatre to the "Chad Hanna".
Those present were Miss Elizabeth
Campbell, Misses Claudia, Camille
and Mary Hazel Burgess, Miss Helen
Coburn. Miss Jeanette Roberson, Mrs.
Robert Winesett and Miss Martha D.
McGowan.

Mrs. A. J. Riddle and Mrs. Lyman
Mayo were hostesses at a lovely Val
entine bridge party at the home of
the former on Friday evening.
Jonquils. Narcissi and potted plants
were used in appointments through
out the rooms where ten tables of
bridge and one of Chinese checkers
were in play. Following five progres
sions a pink hobnail glass basket was
awarded the high scorer, Mrs. E. A.
Harper, and a Valentine Box of Can
dy was presented to Mrs. M. W. Spru
ill as second high score prize. A
cheese and cracker plate was awarded
Mrs. E. L. Owens in bingo and Mrs.
T. L. Bray won the traveling clam
prize, a bottle of toilet water.
Tallies were distributed by Betty
Riddle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.
J. Riddle.
Delicious red fruit punch was serv
: ed during the game and later ice
cream molded heart shaped and deco
rated w'ith red cupids and decorated
cakes was enjoyed. Peanuts in red
baskets were used as favors.

ward the renovation of the Log Cabin.
Committees were appointed to visit
sick people and new residents of the
town. Miss Elizabeth Campbell was
asked to serve as treasurer.

MRS. GOLD GUEST OF
LITERARY CLUB
Mrs. Daisy Hendley Gold of Wilson,
reviewed her novel, “It Was Forever”
I at the Thursday Afternoon Literary
Club luncheon meeting held with Mrs.
T. L. Bray on February 13 in a very
interesting manner. Mrs. Gold said
that she was writing another novel
but would not hurry through it as she
did "It Was Forever", her first book,
j The Bray home was decorated in
a motif suggestive of Valentine. The
dining table was covered with red
celephane over red crepe paper with
two narrow stripes of white crepe pa
per with fluted edges down the center
of the table. Red camelias were ar
ranged at intervals on this white pa
per.
Favors at each place were nosegays
made with lace mats and gum drops.
The luncheon served in three courses,
accentuated the red and white color
scheme in detail.
Mrs. Little, of Wilson accompan
ied Mrs. Gold to Plymouth. Mrs. S.
D. Jones was also a guest of the club,

Mrs. W. L. Whitley was hostess to
the Round Dozen Bridge Club at a
lovely George Washington party on
Tuesday evening at her home on
Washington Street.
The entire lower floor of the home
was decorated with red japonlca in
blue containers, red, white and blue
candles and flags.
Upon the arrival of the guests a
dessert course, consisting of ice cream
molded in shapes of hatchets, individ
ual cakes iced in white and decorated
with flags, salted nuts in red, white
and blue baskets, cherry candy and
coffee, was served. The table was
centered with a white birthday cake
In the shape of a drum, decorated
with red cherries and flags, which
was placed on a large reflector around
which were cherries holding tiny
flags. Tall red, white and blue tapers
burning in silver holders were at each
end of the table. The buffet was cen
tered with a miniature cherry tree
and burning red, white and blue can
dles were at each end.

High score prize for the club was
