Mrs. R. E. Dunning was hostess to
members of the Ace of Clubs Bridge
Club Friday evening at a chop suey
dinner, followed by six progressions
of bridge. Additional guests were
Mrs. J. H. Newkirk, Mrs. Osborne
Marrow, Mrs. Henry E. Harrison, and
Miss Irene Mizelle.
Mrs. C, C. Hardison was high scor
er for the club, and Mrs. Newkirk
for the visitors. Mrs. W. E. Waters
won the bingo prize.

Nuptials Here Sunday
Miss Lillian Jeannette Robertson,
of Plymouth; and J. W Armstrong
sergeant in the United States Army,
were married Sunday evening. Feb
ruary 8. at 6 o'clock at the home of
the bride. The Rev. R. H. Lucas per
formed the ceremony in the presence
of members of the two families and
a few friends.
The bride and bridegroom entered
together. The bride wore a green
tailored suit with black accessories.
Her shoulder corsage was of white
carnations.
Miss Camille Burgess, of Plymouth,
the maid of honor, wore a rose tail
ored suit with black accessories. Her
corsage was of red rosebuds.
Sergeant Armstrong had as his
best man his brother. Ralph Arm
strong. of Plymouth.
Mrs. Armstrong is the attractive
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W.
Robertson, of Plymouth.
Mr. Armstrong is the son of Mr
and Mrs. O. R. Armstrong, also of
Plymouth.
Immediately after the ceremony,
the parents of the bride entertained
at a buffet supper. The dining table
was covered with a lace cloth and
was centered with a three-tiered wed
ding cake, which was decorated with
a miniature bride and bridegroom,
fern and sliver wedding bells.
White flowers and burning white
candles were used in the living room
and the dining room.
Following dinner the young couple
left on a wedding trip for unan
nounced points. Upon their return,
they will be at home in Fayetteville.
Mr. Armstrong is stationed at Fort
Bragg.

To Bridge Club Thursday
Mrs. E. F. Still entertained her
bridge club Thursday evening at her
suburban home. Mrs. George Curry
and Mrs. Corinne Austin were visi
tors.
Defense Stamps were presented to
Mrs. W. R. Hampton and Mrs. Lloyd
Horton as high and second-high scor
ers, respectively. Mrs. R. W. John
ston won the bingo prize, and Mrs.
J. W. Read the low-score award.
Sandwiches and coffee were served.

Pleasant Grove Methodist
Society in Regular Meeting
Pleasant Grove.—The Woman's
Society of Christain Service met at
the home of Mrs. H, G. Spruill Thurs
day afternoon with 11 members pres
ent.
Mrs. W. B. Chesson presided over
the meeting. After the usual open
ing program, including a report of
$4.70 in dues paid, made by Mrs.
Effie Gurkin, a Christian remem
brance to Mrs. T. B. Bell, who has
been sick, was reported, and flowers
for Mrs. Dennis Chesson. At the
time for Mrs. Dennis Chesson’s report
as corresponding secretary, the mem
bers stood in silent prayer and trib
ute to her memory.
Mr-s. Frances C. Hutchins was elect
ed to All Mrs. Chesson’s place as
corresponding secretary.
Refurnishing one room in the par
sonage was discussed, and a study
class organized for ‘‘The Methodist
Meeting House,” which will begin
soon.
Mrs. J. C. Tarkenton was in charge
of the program, with the following
taking part: Mrs. J. C. Tarkenton,
Mrs. W. B. Chesson and Mrs. C. G.
Gurganus. Mrs. W. W. White made
the closing prayer.
The hostess served hot chocolate,
wafers and fruit. The next meeting
will be with Mrs. Pearl Spruill.

Safety at Junior Club Meeting Monday
Mrs. Alice Futrell, of Hertford, gave
i talk on the subject of “Highway
Safety" at the meeting of the Plym
juth Junior Woman’s Club Monday
evening.
A total of $60.97 was reported as

•Vedding’’ recently sponsored by the
club.
The president urged the members

for the Red Cross. A committee was
appointed to take Defense Stamps
to the high school on Thursday to
be sold to the students.

at their home here.
Fifteen boys and girls brought the !
honorees many nice gifts, which they
enjoyed looking at and displaying,
after which games were played until
refreshment time.
Places were set for 18 at a table
which was covered with a French
linen cloth. Individual cakes, iced
in white and decorated with pink
rosebuds and green leaves, were
served with mixed fruit juices. Mints
in cellophane bags, tied with pink
ribbon, were used as favors. Burn
ing yellow candles in crystal holders
completed the table arrangements.
Those present were Jane Kell, who
was also celebrating her birthday,
Ellen Goode Winslow, Frances Hard
wick, Emily Waters, Bobby and Hen

At Shower Wednesday
Miss Jeannette Robertson, bride
elect, was honored Wednesday eve
ning by Miss Camille Burgess at a
dinner shower, followed by a theatre
party.
A Valentine motif was used in the
decorations and in the refreshments.
The hostess presented silver salt
and peppers to the honoree and the
guests showered her with lingerie.

Miss Marian Brinkley entertained

Book Club last Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Leland Thompson conducted
a quiz contest on war slogans and
read an interesting article dealing
with the life of Clara Barton. Later
a two-course supper was served in
the dining room. The centerpiece
was a bowl arrangement of Valen
tines on red ribbons, flanked by silver
candelabra with red tapers. The
place cards were miniature dolls
dressed to carry out the Valentine
motif.
