Mrs. Ruark was formerly Miss Hope Hardison, of Plymouth. In Durham Sunday R. N. (Dick) Hardison returned home last week from a Rocky Mount hospital, where he was a patient for several weeks. C. Jones Hostess To Bridge Club Tuesday Mrs. W. C. Jones was hostess to the Ace of Clubs Bridge Club Tues day evening at a two-course chicken dinner followed by bridge. Mrs. R. B. Trotman and Misses Frances Turnage, Irene Dickson, Ella Harper, Linda Upton, Molly Edger ton, Mary Bateman, Clover Johnson and Hilda Eaker were additional guests. Mrs. Harry Gurkin and Miss Irene Mizelle were welcomed as new mem bers. Miss Mizelle won the club high score prize, a casserole, and Miss Harper received a double deck of cards as the visitors’ high award. Mrs. Trotman won the bingo prize, and Miss Edgerton the traveling award. Mrs. Burnham Hostess At Bridge Wednesday Mrs. C. W. Burnham was hostess to the Friendly Eight Bridge Club Wednesday evening of last week Mrs. W. E. Waters won the high score prize, and Mrs. James Smith received the second high award. T. Hopkins Entertains Class Creswell.—Mrs. R. T. Hopkins was hostess to members of her music class Saturday evening. Roger Davenport and Robert Bate man were prize winners in the two music contests supervised by Mrs. Hopkins. At the conclusion of the game hour the guests were invited into the din ing room. Here the beautifully ap pointed table centered with small United States flags, carried out the red, white and blue color scheme. Each guest received a small flag as a favor. Refreshments consisted of ice cream, cake and mints. Class of the Ludford Memorial Baptist Sunday school met with Mesdarnes Gray Willis, Alvah Whealton, and Burt Bishop at the home of Mrs. Willis Monday evening. Mrs. A. J. Byrd, president of the class, presided. The devotional was led by Mrs. E. F. Thomas and Mrs. J. E. Singleton led in prayer. Mrs. John Carlisle took orders for get-well and birthday cards for the class members. Mrs. Hugh Roberson, Mrs. A. J. Byrd and Mrs. J. E. L. Twiford. of Elizabeth City, as marshall; and C L. Twiford as the installing officer. Mrs, R. E. Dunning and Mrs, W. M. Darden were presented nice gifts as incoming and outgoing worthy matrons. H. H. McLean, retiring worthy patron, also received a gift. J. F Keyes succeeds Mr. McLean as worthy patron. Sandwiches and punch were served. There were a number of visitors from Elizabeth City. Mrs. J. H. Newkirk Hostess at Bridge Mrs. J. H. Newkirk, entertained her bridge club Thursday evening of last week. Miss Nancy Bateman, Mesdames M. J. Jackson, Bill Clifton, Ned Swain and Pat Hamilton were wel comed as new members. Mrs. A. J. Byrd won the high score prize. Mrs. Leroy Bateman scored second high and Mrs. Bill Clifton won the bingo award. Mrs. Henry Hardison was present as a new mem ber. After an order for books was made, bridge was played. Mrs. C. C. Hardison and Mrs. Leroy Bateman received defense stamps as awards for high score and second high score, respectively. A dessert course was served. Mrs. J. M. Phelps Hostess To Mission Society Meet Creswell.—Mrs. J. M. Phelps was hostess to members of the Missionary Society of Creswell Baptist church when they met at her home Wednes day afternoon for study and discus sion of the book, Fellow Workers." Mesdames A L. Holmes, Clyde Smithson, and A. C. Harris were the study leaders. At the conclusion of the study, a social hour was enjoyed.
