Glenwood Spruill was hostess to the Pleasant Grove Demonstration club ThursjBay eve ning. In the absence of the president, Miss Elizabeth Chesson, Mrs. Dar den took charge of the meeting. The members present gave reports of canning and defense activities. Mrs. Darden gave a lecture on “Home Nursing and Care of the Sick.” Miss Marganeile White and Richard H. Lucas, Jr., Married Last Saturday The wedding of Miss Gale Mar ganette White, of Roper, and Rich ard H. Lucas, jr., of Plymouth, was solemnized Saturday, June 27 at 7 p. m. in the the Pleasant Grove Meth odist Church. The Rev. R. H. Lucas, sr„ father of the bride-groom, per formed the wedding ceremony. White gladioli, magnolias and lighted cathedral candles in floor standards, against a background of ivy and pine decorated the chancel of the church. Prior to the ceremony a program of nuptial music was rendered by Shep Brinkley, of Plymouth, includ ing Shubert’s ‘'Serenade'’ and "Ave Maria” by Bach Gounod. ‘Liebes traum." was played softly as the vows were spoken and the traditional wedding marches were used for the processional and the recessional. The bride entered the church with her father, by whom she was given in marriage. She wore a gown of white satin, fashioned with a long fitted bodice with square neckline and long leg-o-mutton sleeves ending in points over the hands. Her finger tip veil of illusion was attached to a coronet of orange blossoms. She car ried an arm bouquet of brides roses. Miss Imogene McGibony, of Atlan ta. Ga. was maid of honor. She wore a yellow dress of marquisette with a draped bodice, sweetheart neckline and long bishop sleeves. Miss Betty McCracken, of Canton, Miss Polly Swain of Charleston. S. C.. Miss Sileen Smith of Asheville and Mrs. I. J. Sandlin, jr.. of Beaulaville. brides maide, wore identical dresses two in blue and two in pink. All of them carried arm bouquets of mixed flowers and wore in their hair bows of matching material with streamers hanging to their waists. Mrs. White, mother of the bride wore a dress of shadow rose and a shoulder corsage of white roses. Mrs. Lucas, mother of the bride groom. was dressed in black and her corsage was also of white roses. Dick Norman, of Plymouth acted as best man and ushers were: Ron nie Spruill, Williford Whitley and Edward Willoughby, of Plymouth and Thomas Swain, of Williamston. The bride is the attractive daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. White, of Roper. She attended ECTC in Greenville, two years, and the Uni versity of North Carolina two years. The bride-groom is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. R. H. Lucas, sr., of Plymouth. He attended Oak Ridge Military School and was in the U. S. Army from September 1940 to Sep tember 1941. At the present he is associated with his father in business. After the ceremony an informal reception was held on the lawn at the home of the bride’s parents. Mrs. R. E. Dunning, of Plymouth, greeted guests and Mrs. W. M. Dar den, of Plymouth, introduced them to members of the receiving line, which consisted of the parents of the couple and the bridal party. Mrs. Edward Merck, of Charlotte, aunt of the bride-groom, directed guests to the punch bowl over which Mrs. Patterson Clark, of Sumter, Mrs. William Clifton Hostess to Bridge Club Mrs. William Clifton was hostess to her bridge club Thursday evening Mesdames J. S. Brown, J. E. Thrall kill, Carlyle Hall, L. H. Lowe and W. H. Joyner wrere visitors. Mrs. L. Roy Swain won the club high score prize and the honor award. The visitors’ prize went to Mrs. J. E. Thrailkill and Mrs. Dan Satterthwaite received the bingo prize. A dessert course was served. The bride cut the first slice of the three-tiered wedding cake, which with punch and decorated sandwich es was served. Goodbyes were said by Mrs. Sam Lucas and Miss Pauline Lucas. Following the reception Mr. and Mrs. Lucas left on a trip to unan nounced points. Upon their return they will reside with the bride-groom's parents in Plymouth. On Friday evening Miss White en tertained the girl attendants at a dinner at her home prior to the re hearsal. Mr. Lucas was hostess to the men attendants at a dinner at the Country Club.
