Wii! Be At Plymouth The
atre Owl Show With
Warren William
Certainly a John Barrymore pro
file and . nee .-mould be enviable as
sets to an aspiring actor, but not
for Warren William. For years
Broadway producers slammed their
doors in his face, saving. “You look
coo much iike Barrymore." Now
William has licked the jinx. For
some time he has been a screen star
and has his latest important role in
“Tne Wolf Man Universal horror
drama coming to the Plymouth The
atre for the Saturday night Owl
Show. With him will be Claude
Rains. Ralph Bellamy, Patric Know
ies, Bela Lugosi. Maria Ouspenskaya,
Evelyn Ankers and Lon Chaney.
Before he overcame the Barrymore
obstacle, William served two years as
a newspaper reporter and a similar
period in the World War. Finally,
however, he obtained his "break" in
• Expressing Willie "
William portrays a doctor in “The
Wolf Man, story of a young Welsh
man who is bitten by a werewolf,
and later becomes one himself in a
terrifying transformation. Chaney
plays the title role, and his first big
horror role, and is said to possess the
-ame ability to portray believable
horror ciiara erizations his father
displayed.
Remarkable new camera effects,
devised to intensify the eerie atmos
phere of The Wolf Man," were cre
ated by Joseph Valentine one of
Hollywood's best known cinemato
graphers.
George Wagner was associate pro
ducer-director.

FARMERS INSURING WHEAT YIELDS
_ - —. /
North Carolina farmers are taking advantage of the three-year
wheat crop insurance contracts now being offered by the Fedeal Crop
Insurance Corporation, according to E. Y. Floyd, state AAA executive
assistant, of N. C. State College. The insurance guarantee 75 per cent
of the normal yield set up for each wheat farm against loss due to
causes beyond control of the grower, such as fire, floods, windstorm,
hail and drouth. Premium rates vary from four-tenths to six-tenths
of a bushel per acre, which at present prices is an average of about 60
cents per acre. The insurance, however, may be obtained without an
outlay of cash, premiums being deducted from any indemnity due the
farmer, or any payment due him under the AAA farm program. Closing
date for making applications is September 15, and none will be accept
ed after that date. Applications may be made at any county AAA of
fice.

Plan Cattle Sale At
Caledonia Farm
——•—
Raleigh—T. Lenoir Gwyn, super
visor of cattle at Caledonia Prison
rami and head of cattle purchasing
I for the State Highway and Public
| Works Commission has nnounced
the second sale of Hereford cattle
will be held at Caledonia farm Sat
urday, September 12.
i Gwyn said there would be four
i car loads of cattle, or approximate
ly 150 head, which would include
i fine bulls, breeding heifers, feeder
j calves and feeder steers.
First sale held on August 29th
brought $4611.98 for 76 cattle. This
i group was composed of heifers, feed
I er calves and feeder steers.
Gwyn said the September 12th
sale would be the second in a series
of 12 sales to be held under the Re
volving Fund operating jointly by
the State Highway Commission and
the State Department of Agriculture.
The sales are conducted by Gwyn,
who pools his talents between the
State Highway Commission and the
Department of Agriculture, and Paul
Fletcher of the Markets Division. All
cattle are purchased in western
North Carolina and resold at Cale
donia at the same price plus ship
ping and handling expense, which
still gives the eastern North Caro
linians a chance to buy cattle cheap
er than they would normally if they
had to pay for smaller individual
shipments. Then too, the eastern
state cattle raisers are given the ad
vantage of having trained experts se
lect the cattle for them.
