They plan to return Sunday. peacock-covington Rockingham.—In an informal but very impressive ceremony. Miss Jose phine Phillis Covington, daughter of Mrs. Covington and the late Walter B. Covington, was married to Lieu tenant Lansing Carrol Peacock, of Camp Lee, Va., and Roper, at the First Presbyterian Church at Peters burg, Va., Friday morning, Decem ber 11, at 11 o’clock The church was beautifully deco rated for the simple ceremony with baskets of autumn flowers arranged against a background of greenery and flanked with branched candelabra holding white tapers. The bride wore a gold wool costume suit with brown accessories. Her shoulder corsage was of green or chids. Mrs. Peacock attended the local schools and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College, Green ville. For the past several years she has been a popular teacher in the city schools of Roper and Murfrees boro. Lieutenant Peacock, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Peacock, of Roper, at tended VPI and State College in Raleigh, where he received his B. S. degree. Prior to entering the army in April, 1942. Lieutenant Peacock was vocational agriculture teacher at St. Pauls, and was well known throughout the state for outstanding work with the state vocational de partment. U. D. C. Meeting Held With Mrs. B. A. Sumner The Charles Louis Latham chapter of the U. D. C. met on Friday with Mrs. Ben Sumner. The main feature of the meeting was the reading on ‘‘Jefferson Davis,” given by Mrs. Edison Davenport. A white elephant sale was held, from which $5.40 was realized. Each member brought two gifts for the ladies in the Women’s Confed erate Home at Fayetteville. This meeting was said to be one of the most interesting during the year. Groups 1 and 3 ended the contest in a tie for first place, each outfit having won 15 ribbons. Group 2 ended up in third place, and mem bers of this group had to eat beans as a forfeit while the winners ate turkey. The following young people of the Episcopal church attended the ban quet: Turkey eaters: Iris White, Lois Meunier, Sonny Williford, Tom Hampton, Vivian Sitterson, Miss Becky Ward, Zeno Lyon, Cecil Hook er, Annie Mabel Hooker, Skinner Ayers, Bobby Collins, Mary Corinne Cahoon, and Miss Jane Read. The home was attractively deco rated with Christmas greens and lighted blue tapers Mrs T. L. Bray read a paper on "Christ.-mas Carols and Their Ori gin.” After the meeting Mrs. W. T. Peele club president, led the way into the dining room where a turkey dinner was served. The table was covered with blue paper outlined with tinsel. Forming the centerpice were greenery and vari-colored Christmas balls arranged about the base of lighted blue candles Similar deco rations were used on the buffet. Every member was presented a Christmas card on which the hostess had written a verse portraying cer tain characteristics of each club member. When read aloud the hos tess conducted a recognition contest and with few exceptions the cards were soon turned over to the right ful owners. ---- Returns From Hospital Mrs. Lloyd Owens and son have re turned from a Rocky Mount hospital.
