Senator Graham's Work Means Much To Peanut Grower ■ ' Peanut farmers in the south who have been beleaguered with • acreage cuts can thank Senator Graham for the recently passed . law amending the program, ac cording to a recent story carried . in the Williamston Enterprise. The record shows that it was Senator Graham who successful ly pleaded with President Tru man in behalf of the peanut far i mers, heading off a veto and sav ing the amendment concerning edible peanuts. The story as car ried in the Enterprise is reprint I ed below: While his mortal enemies ped dle hate and engage in disreput able smearing tactics, Frank Gra ham, candidate for the United States Senate, has accomplished much for Martin County farmers and others in the peanut produc ing areas. According to informa tion coming out of Washington ns released by Congressman Her bert C. Bonner at the Martin County Farm Bureau meeting a few days ago, peanut farmers with virtual assurance that all plantings of the edible type pea nuts will receive parity support. On the basis of the assurance received, Martin County fann ers stand to profit to the tune of about $350,000.00 next fall. Their peanut acreage reduced to a little more than 19.000 acres this year by the original law, farmers, as a result of an amendment, now may plant right at 23.000 acres, I meaning that the income from the additional acres will approx imate $350,000, weather condit ion and other factors permitting. Senator Graham, the record shows, successfully pleaded with President Truman in behalf of the peanut farmers, headed off a veto, and saved the law amend ing the program and including folk, Va., attended the baccalau reate sermon at the Creswell high school and visited friends around Creswell. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Fisher, of Lake Landing were the week-end 1 guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. \ Norman. i edible peanuts. Frank Graham, while opposing the Brannan plan, said this week that he would not hesitate to sup port other changes in the present program when such changes could benefit the farmer, and are similiar to the change made for peanuts and cotton. It has been pointed out that while one billion dollars were spent supporting farm prices dur ing the past ten years nearly ten billion dollars were spent to aid industry. These figures were Sf^MMAmAAMWMMWWIMIUWI released by Congressman Jamie Whitten, chairman of the sub committee on agricultural ap propriations, before a meeting of the Matrin County Farm Bureau in Williamston on Friday, May 5, and are not to be refuted. The ac tion taken to balance the farm eco nomy has been branded by some forces as being Socialistic, but those same forces have never -aid the first word about the ten billion dollars dumped into the fat laps of industry and the cor porations being socialistic. iwwwvwwwwwwywwwt 5—REASONS—5 WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR W.
