Never dry your fur coat over a radiator. Cool cakes thoroughly before frosting. There is no difference in the food value of egg yolks of a pale or deep color. To ripen pears, let them stand at ro«.m temneratur? until they yield to slight thumb pressure. Instead of suspending your fur coat from a hook, drape it carefully over a hanger. When shampoing hair at home add b< rax to the water to -often it. Try to avoid running lamp cord.-; under your rugs. They wear ridges into the fabric. Flour can be substituted for cornstarch by using twice as much in recipes. You can save fuel by bringing foods quickly to a boil and ther reducing heat. The Label Will Tell The Story By VIVIAN' BROWN 0 A label on any product—food, clothing -or household article- - is an indication from the manu facturer Ithat ho stands behind the quality of his product. Not even a textile expert can tell, just by feeling or looking at a fabric, whether it will wash or /clean satisfactorily. lie too must have specific information from the manufacturer about how the fabric was constructed, dyed and finished, before he can judge its serviceability. When purchasing rayon fabrics it is important for you to check the labels as to whether the fab ric is all viscose rayon, a combi nation of acetate and viscose, a combination of rayon and wool, rayon and cotton, etc.. as this will affect methods of cleaning and pressing. The label should state whether the fabric may be washed by ma chine or by hand or should be dry cleaned. Information about shrinkage tests should be given. One manufacturer uses traf.'lc light labels for easy identifca tion cf the method of care you should follow '(green for wash able faH'ics, yellow for hand washable and red for dry clean able fabrics). Color tests the fabric has pass ed should he clearly indicated on the label. These include tests for resistance !•) fading in washing or (leaning, hot pressing and sun light: resistance to perspiration fading, atmospheric gasfading and "crocking" (color rubbing off>. So that you can judge dura bility the label should tell you if 1 he fabric has passed tensile strength testj. tests for resist ance to seam slippage. You'll find labels and tags giving this kind of information are I®ached to many rayon gar ments and fabrics. And strip labeling. a new form of inform ative labeling for rayon fabrics by-lhe-vard. is rolled right into the boll. USO Tallman Street ^George Sec director of the Tall man Street USO. announced that, on Wednesday.. February 14th. a formal dance was held at the Club. The quiz program was conducted on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. by Miss Margaret Schumacher. Ques tions on history, literature, sports and geography were asked and some of the answers provoked much hilarity. Service people and their guests enjoy this program and consider the answers valuable additions to their stock of informa tion. The program is conducie I in the form of a spelling bee. The Arts and Crafts group Tues day night worked on huge Valen tines to decorate the hall for the formal held on Wednesday, the 14th. Miss Ora Leigh Petteway. He said a quick hello. She explained she had to dash off to work. In a manner not unlike a swingshifter at this time of day. Mrs. James docs not work at Lockheed, how ever. What with the wife's odd work ing hours and Harry's band play ing at all hours, they don't see each other as often as most cou ples. When they are together, they are generally cooing over I ho crib of their daughter. Victoria Elizabeth. I didn't see Vickie because she was supposed to be embarking on her nap. I did hear her voice, though, which indicated that her grandmother. Mrs. Grable. was having difficulty in inducing tiic child to slumber. Her voice has a fine, resonant quality, but whether it is better than standard for a 10-months-old baby. 1 wouldn't know. To hear Harry tell it. she is the most beautiful babv in the world. Other fathers have held 1 became opinion of their babies. She's in telligent, too. "She talks all the time." Harry • :iid. "although we have consid erable difficulty in understanding what she i-s saying." Already the Jameses are wor rying about i school for Vickie. Their home is just outside the Beverly Hills school district, so th-cy don't know where sho^fell go. The parents, both of were helping to support ineir families in their early teens, hope to send her to college but the school will be up to her. Like wise, if Vickie wants to enter show business, it. will be her de cision. Aside from being a father, Harry has another new position -as an actor. In "Kitten On The Keys" he will have an honest to goodness acting role for the first time. But he claims he will merely bo acting Marry James under a different name. The only thing he is concerned about is a couple of love scenes which he will do with Maureen O'llara. Not that he will be em barrassed or afraid the Missus wouldn't understand, but he just thinks they're silly. Harry showed me around the house and quite a layout it is. 1 was particularly struck by the James-Grable bedroom. The bed itself is a production comparable to any of Mrs. James' 20th Cen tury-Fox super-epics. It is a tre mendous affair, done in pink. During the tour of the house. I washed my hands in one of the bathrooms. 1 am not one of those meek souls who dry their (lands on the -bower curtain or drapes when visiting someone. Besides, I wanted to be able to tell my urandehildren that I once used a James-Grable guest towel.
