Being as ever the Doubting Thomas. 1 de termined to observe this pheno menon al first hand. 1 made an ap pointment. I arrived at the Peck residence, high on a windy hill, at 7:17 A. M. Tlie handsome actor swung the door open and greeted me with: Von must be crazy." ■"That is neither here or there." 1 answered, moving out of the chill pre-dawn air and into the warm house. It was a comfortable but unpretentious .joint. Beause there was i it tie time be fore iie had to leave for worK. I immediately got down to business. ••Mow on earth did you ever get the habit of an egg in sherry for breakfast?" "I guess it is a hangover from my Broadway days when I got up in the afternoon and couldn't ea* a thing." "Am I to take hangover' liter ally'.'" "No. I do not recommend it for hangovers." He explained he heard oi the concoction from some ob scure uncle in Arizona or .some thing. "Let's have one." he sugges ted and I agreed in the interests of science. We went into the kitchen and 1 met Jessie, his wonderful cook. Any cook is wonderful these days, but Jessie is even more so. The sherry and eggs were produced and Peck poured three fingers in bal l glasses. Next he plopped an egg in each glass. "Fee. it's easy." he said and he ■ swallowed the glass' contents in one gulp. 1 followed suit. The sher ry went down easily, but the yolk had a little difficulty slithering past my tonsils. It was over in a few seconds and didn't taste bad . at all. He said he made no attempt to be vivacious in the morning and I added that I made it a point never to crack a s.miie before noon. "1 must be off," ho declared, gazing at his watch.
