An application of 300 to 000 pounds of acid phosphate to the ncre is usually suflitrient. In order tt» supply potnsli, if this is needed, un bleached wotMl ashes may bo distrih- ut»‘d over tlie garden at the rate of pounds to the acre. Wet or leach- ihI ashes have less fertilizer value. Two thousand pounds of these should he used. In order to start the plants early in the spring applicatums of 1(K) pounds t> the acre ot nitrate of 80«la are siunetiiues used. It Is important, however, to renieinber that no form of ctuninerclal fertillz*r will yield potwl results unless the soil is well supplied with humus. This fn‘quently inu.v lie furnished In the form of sod or iither vegetation which has )Verirrown a parden spot and may he turned under with II plow or spade. In certain localities it is also ad visable to test the sttil for a-idity. Naturally inoi.st soils are likelf to he sour and in such a condition are not likely to produce the most satisfactory en p.**. The test for acidity or sour ness Is a ver>* simple one. A Iiandfni «if the .soil tiliphtl.v moistened and a piece of blue litmus paper, which can h(‘ obtained from any drujr store, are all thnt is necessary. When pla ed on Four si>il the paper will turn red. To c(.ir('ct such a condition lime should be us(*d. Th«‘ ^:r^>u^d .should be cov ered with a thin coat of air slaked linu* and tin* hitter worked in well. Lime is not a plant food, but it will correct the acitlity and will improve the I'hysi. al condition of the soil. LARGELY ATTENDED ANNUAL SESSION GOOD ROAD8 CONVENTION AT ASHEVILLE ADJOURS. 6-Room House for $2,464.00 This sum, only part cash and balance on easy terms, will take one of the best real estate bar gains in Brevard. Ask any man with knowledge of real estate values and he will tell you that the house was bought at a bargain. If a sale can be made in July it will be sold for exactly what it cost because the owner contemplates a business investment and needs the money, having absolutely no use for a house. The cottage is ideally situated on the corner opposite the Hen ning Inn on lot 75x155 with good garden and plenty of shade trees. $200 was recently spent on the property, placing it in first-class shape. If you can find a better bar gain buy it, but this proposition will bear looking into. The prop erty is renting for $15.50 per month. This price is offered for only a few days. See me at once. Suhjccts for Sunday; Editor, News: I understand that, at the coming term of court, two women are to be tried upon the charge of keeping a disorderly bouse. Rceently a woman (the wife of a man who has been prominent in Transylvania politics, having held office more than once) tohl me that her husband said. “Noth- htng would be done with these women.” I asked her h«iw the gentleman could pos sibly know, before thc'y were tried, what the result of the trial would be. She an swered, with a shrug of her shoulders, that the men ’ didn’t want these women interfered with, and that her husi)and fiiii when the *ase came Ix fore the jury the women would k- sure to get off. Another woman of excellent standing, whose husband has had much to do with county aff.'iirs, e.xprrsscd the same opinion to me. a.s.surirg ne that her husband thoujiht it a'n^^st lioj/cless to secure moral Morning; “The Otlice of I"in the |, In Rrc vard. .Matter of Salvation.” Evening: “('an I Hold Steady ('hristian Life?”- 2nd Peter .V17. the in this case, it simply means that our townspeople consent to the establishment of the social evil among us. Perhap.s “the men” want this, though I can but think that most fathers prefer their sens to grow into clean and fine and self respecting manhood, and would not will ingly help them into becoming the re verse. But however “the men” may fee!, the women emphatically do not want such a condition. What will the chivalrous Southern man do about it? —our fathers, our brothers, and the husbands who promised before God to love, honor and cherish theit wives. Do they think we fetl honored by their even tolerating -much less encour aging such a thing? If “the men” can make this town a clean and wholesome place for our sons and daughters and they can will they not do .so? I shall watch this trial with intense interest. So will many dher wives and mothers. If the wciim-n art- innocent I earnestly trust that they ma\ be cleared. If they arc guilty let them Ik punished, and let the decisicm rest witli the jury and not with “the men” who have already decided what is l«» he cjc.nc in the matter. Maky .fr.NKIN-.V.
