Good Judgment
The eighteenth series of the Brevard Building
and Loan Association opened on Satnrday and of
course it was gratifying to witness such splendid
judgment as was shown by the large number who
subscribed for one or more shares of stock.
Over 103 Shares Taken
It was one of the best openings in the history
of the Building and Loan of this town. There
were over 103 shares taken. This means that
Building and Loan is recognized as one of the best
investments a man or woman can make for it rep
resents a weekly saving of 25 cents a share, means
good interest on your money with exemption from
taxes on your Building and Loan stock.

Opportunity StiD Knocking
Many people stand afar off and look at a good
thing but wait for opportunity to knock a few
times more. In order to accommodate these we
are still selling shares with payments dating from
last Saturday.
Why not exercise good judgment

fits may mean more to you later than they would
appear just now. The Building and Loan has
helped others. It can do as much for you.
Come in and let us explain any detail of the
Building and Loan that may not be clear to you.
AVOID ALL “NEAR AGCIDEN1S”
Perils Which Cause “Near Accident#’
Should Be Abolished V/ith Proper
Care to Prevent Reoccurence.
A “near accident” may be defined
M a the nature of wliich
is dangerous to persons, but which did
not rcHUlt in injury owing to the for-
unale absonce of a man from a par
ticular spot, or to his quickness, or
to tlio iH**rcnt other iliauce, but the
recurrence of whii’h is always a peril
a peril whicli should be abolished by
proper ur«;.
A familiar illustration of a near aocl-
dent is the ase of a person cauKht ha-
twoen two trains traveling in oppo
site directions on ditterent tra‘ks, lifit
who escaped death or injury by lying
down between the tracks. There ara
many other such instances of esc'aped
injury, inside as well as outside the
Industrial shops. Tools and materials
flopping from scaffolds and roofs, but
striking no one. Ladders falling or
slipping with men who land unhurt,
vehicles skidding and just missing
pedestrians or other vehi les -all
these are common oc«-urrences.
These are but few of the many in
stances that will suggest themselves
to tlvp average reader, but in every
iastance of this kind there is a laason
from which every one shoiild profit.
“NVar accident.s” are a fruitful source
of suggestion, for preiautions to be
observed, and for rules to be formu
lated for the avoidance of dangeroui
practices.
Regrettable as it may be. however,
the fact remains that too little atten
tion is paid to “near accidents.” It
seems to ro(iuire actual accidents to
startle us suffieiently. This should
not be so. There is jut^t as much in-
stru(tion to be had from "near acci-
dent.-^” as from actual accident. “Safety
First” work is a study and prevention
of accident auses. and it should n*>t
require the theft of a llorse to make
you realize the importance of locking
the barn.
(rood safety work is seeing that
there i.^ a lock on the barn door befora
the attempt is made to steal the horse.

Study the Columbus Fifth Wheel
Only International Wagons Have It
WE can demonstrate how the Columbus fifth
wheel makes the best ^vagon still better. Look
over this strong, new feature, which you will find only
on International wagons.
The famous fifth wheel on the Columbus, made of
strong, malleable iron, with large wearing surfaces, does these
things: it distributes the strain on the front bolster and sand-
board; overcomes pitching of bolster, so preventing bending
or breaking of the king bolt; does away with pulling up of
front bolster and bending of circle iron. ^
The top plates of the fifth w'heel are widest, so the lower
plates are protected end no dirt gets in between. The more you study
the merits of this feature, the more you will appreciate its import*ace.
