^V'-.._ TOPICS A wedding of much interest to ■umy Transylvanians took plaeie Sun day when Miss Annie Atexi^dar be came the bride of Ifr. Fate Maliaffe. The young people were married by Rev. P. P. Orr at the bride’s home. Many friends and relatives were pre sent. Private Ulysess Thrift who belong ed to the famous **30th*' has received his honorable discharge. We are all glad that he is with us again. B. E. Sims and Clarence Orr are also expected home any day. Mrs. Wait Galloway and sons, Paul and Jerry of Gullowhee have been visiting friends and relatives here this week. Mr. and Mrs. Fate Mahalfe went to Haywood on their honey moon, April 1st. Rev. R. R.Mahaife has returned after a visit to Waynesville. Miss Varma Lee Surratt of Penrose visited her aunt, Mrs. Rachel England last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Sims and sons visited Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Boggs last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Lyday of Pisgah Forest visited Mrs. J.. S. Boggs Sun day. Charlie Sims from Boilston passed thru our burg this week. Mr. and Mrs. Judson McCall and baby. Pearl, spent Sunday with Wade Lyday and family. Spring is really here: Flowers are in bloom and the pond is frozen over, Pototoes are planted and we still need cover. The little birds are singing, Oh my! I’m about to freeze. The wedding bells are ringing. Great guns! I’ve got to sneeze. The weath er is getting on our nerves but I guess we can stand it. Come on back woods and give us some potery. I like our new Walt Mason who wrote on the bearties of our County and the tannery. Tell him to come again. Best wishes to the NEWS and a good crop all over the county. I like Mr. Hamlin’s old time pieces. ARBUTUS 1 **And God touched ^r with' His Finger, ahd*She slept.** Oh! Such a blessed sleep, as only those who have spent a life in loving service may hope for as a final re ward. In the loss of Miss Daisy Nicholson- our town has lost one, its most valu able townswomen, one who has spent years of her life in )c|^ng for the sick, and doing all in her ^power to alleviate the suffering of those about her wherever an opportunity present ed itself, (and this done in such a cheerful, whole-hearted way, as to in spire trust and confidence) faithful and conscientious to the highest de gree, regardless of her own health and welfare, tender, kind and sympa thetic. This was the life that has gone from us, and a life that we could ill afford to lose. Yet she will live on, for many whose suffering brow She has soothed, many a discouraged, despondent soul whose sick body She has nursed back to health, will cherish the memory of Her, who administered so faithfully and untiringly to their needs. Yes, we shall miss her, but may the God of all mercies comfort her loved ones, for it is He alone that can soothe such heart-wounds and at last restore those loved ones whom “We have loved long since and lost awhile.” M. NOTICE TO HI6UC NOTICE TO TEACHERS The matter of appointing school committees for the schools of the county is now open to the public for suggestions. The County Board of Education will convene at an early date for the purpose of filling all the vacancies created by the last legisla ture. The business of the Board was too heavy to reach this matter April 7th, and had to recess for the un finished business. Now, therefore, get in your recommendations at once. All old boards will remain intact till their successors are qualified. Most cordially yours, A. F. MITCHELL, Co. Supt. mssiONXR All the teachers and prospective teachers please take notice that there will be conducted under the auspices of the County and State a summer school or institute in this County com mencing either the latter part of June or the first part of July and will last either two weeks or one month—Mr. D. F. Giles of the State Board of Examiners will be present for a gen eral supervision and a full discussion of the certification of teachers. The institute is free to all who may come. The plan is to have the institute conducted immediately before the opening of schools for the next ses sion. All teachers are aware of the fact that the law requires their attendence at an institute every two years; also, that a certain amount of reading work is to be done every year. Now, therefore come and get credit for what you need. A detailed outline of the work etc. will appear in the BREVARD NEWS the latter part of this month. Make your plans to attend the insti tute in this County.. Yours for success A. F. MITCHELL, Co. Supt. DECIDE YOUSELF r The Opportunity Is Kere, Backed By BREVARD Testimony. Don’t take our word for it. Don’t depend* upon a stranger’s statement. Read Brevard endorsement. Read the statements of Brevard citizens. jL And decide for yourself. fl^Here is one case of it. Mrs. M. L. Duckworth, Broad St., says: “I had such backaches I could hardly walk and my kidneys were ouj of order. Dizzy spells came ovef and black specks floated befo] eyes. When I stooped over hardly straighten again and ney’s were weak, too. My an hands swelled and my sight Reading of Doan’s Kidney a supply at Duchworths Druj they relieved me right away, felt like a different personn.” 60c at all dealers.
