Is it not a dreadful disease? Yes, one of the most loathsome and fatal of all diseases, years ago it rivalled the lawful scourge of in fluenza, which was so much in evi dence a year ago, numbering ita victims by millions. Smallpox is and has always been a winter disease be cause of the fact that its germs are harbored in woolen body and bed clothes. Infection and contagious, whichever you may please to term it,, probably more contagious than infectious. These things being so why not quarantine, as nearly every year we have it with us in isolated cases? Because it has been abund antly demonstrated that it is possi ble to prevent it by vaccination. Then why not every one be vaccin ated? Because it is so deeply em bedded ipi many person’s minds that vaccinatiVn is a dangerous mode of prevention. Persons have told the writer that they have heard of arms having to be amputated because of vaccination. I have never heard of an authentic case of amputation due to vaccination and am firmly con vinced that if carefully and cleanly done it will not, unless injured or in fected by other means, make a very sore arm. Persons have told me that they would perfer a case of smallpox similar to cases they have seen to a vaccination, forgetting that due to vaccination smallpox has been at- tennated and robbed to a very great extent of its violence and its malig nant features. From the stand point of a proper care for our neigh bors, people are not living up to the golden rule if they do not vaccinate. The State is daily manifesting more care for the individual from his birth to his passing and will con tinue to do so. I cannot doubt, in view of our previous experience with influenza that if a preventive treat ment for influenza was advertised the very people who would be in fighting most if vaccination was pro posed would flock to be treated for the prevention of in fluenza. In conclusion I would say thaj[; j£ persons will not vaccinate I hastily endorse the decision of our when it says vaccinate or havp pox as you will. Very sincerely, W. J. WAl IF YOU WANT TO DISPOSE OF THAT VACANT LOT UST it Wmi THE BREVARD LAND * IMPibinB MENT COMPANY.
