' Organized Evil Forces at Work; Seek the Disintegration of Society. By CALVH} COOLIDGE, Vice President-Elect. I speak in behalf of higher education. There is need not only of patriotic ideals and a trained intelli gence in our economic life, but also of a deep under standing of man and his relationship to the physical uiflverse and to his fellow man. There has always been evil in the world. There are evil forces at work now. They are apparently organized and seek dis integration of society. They can almost be recognized by a direct appeal to selfishness. They deny that the present relationship of men has any sound basis for its existence. They point out to men with untrained minds that it takes effort to maintain themselves and support government and claim that they ought to exist without effort on the accumulation of others and the denial that men have any obligations toward one another. The answer to this lies in a knowledge of past human experience ,and a realization of what man is. The sources of the state of mind which supports civilization are edu cation and religion. We hold by the modem standards of society. We believe in maintaining modem civilization for the protection and support of free government and the development of the economic welfare. The great test of an institution is the ability to perpetuate itself. It seems fairly plain that these institutions ran survive with the aid of higher education. Without it they have not the slightest chance. We justify the greater and greater accum ulation of capital because we believe that thereupon flows the support of all science, art, learning ahd the charities which minister to the humanities of life, all carrying their beneficent effects to the people as a whole. Unless this is measurably true, our system of civilization ought to stand condemned. i WEIGHED iilNETV POUNDS BEFDRE WEIGHT INCtEAScD TD DHE HDND8EQ AND IHIIITY Gained Forty Pounds—Restored To Health After Many Years of Suffering From Scrofula and Nervousness By Taking Garren’s Tonic. Much has been said and done in an effort to establish the exact extent of the medicinal values found in Moun tain Herbs, Roots, and Barks but nothing so far attempted, so clearly demonstrates to the people their blood purifying qualities as does the statement of Mrs. Susan Thompson of Hendersonville, North Carolina. Does not the following statement coming from her own lips, tell in un speakable truths the most wonderful report so far recorded of the medi cinal values found in Nature’s own gift to mankind — the Herbs, Roots and Barks that grow wild in the wil derness of the mountains, fulfilling a mission according to God's own plan. “Two years ago as a great sufferer from scrofula of an interior and ex terior nature, I suffered intensely. Everything I ate disagreed with me and I was overcome at times from nervousness. 1 gradually lost in weight until I weighed only ninety (90) pounds, and was so weak and run down that I could not walk any distance without becoming completely exhai4Sted. I tried a good many different remedies but notlung seem ed to do me any good. “I had heard a great deal about Garren's Tonic and the good it was doing so many people, so decided to give it a trial myself. By the time I had finished my first bottle I could see that I was improving and felt bettelf in every way. My streng^th began to come back to me, and I could see that I was gaining weight I right along. I continued taking I Garren’s Tonic until I had gained in • weight from ninety (90) to one hun- (Ired thirty (130) pounds, making an actual gain of forty (40) pounds, j “I am happy to say that my scro fula i3 gone and my whole system is I so wonderfully built up that I feel as well in every way as I ever did in my life. Garren’s Tonic has been worth thouands of dollars to me, and I cheerfully recommend this wonder ful remedy to others who suffer is I did.” Garren’s Tonii ig a purely veget able compound, made exclusively from Herbs, Roots and Barks and can successfully be called The-Back-to- Nature Remedy. i Garren’s Tonic is sold in Brevard by Davis - Walker Drt« Co., and in- Lake Toxaway by J. T. HarrisoQ, j Single bottle, |(1.26. I Buy 5 bottles $5.00^
