THE PRAYER CORNER Life** Ladder **Behold a ladder set up on the earth snd the top of it reached to heaven.’* The ladder Is an illustration of a tru2 Christian Lf?. At every you'ag person’s feet springs such a ladder which sketches away through grow ing brightness until its top reaches the very glory of God. The figure of a ladder is suggestive. A ladder is not easy to ascend—a "v.a rarnc£;J; life is never easy—and .t is there, if r’i, th:;t v.’c ..J H"'.v:n :.c' at a single bound, But v.'c build the la.!der by which we rise ^rom the lowly earth to the voulted skies, \nd we mount to its summit round by round. We must rise by daily self-con quest in little things. Every fault we overcome lifts us a step higher. Every low desire, every bad habit, all onorin^s for base, ignoble things, all \vrong feelings, that we conquer and ^rample down become ladder rounds or our feat on which we climb up- vard, out of groweling and sinfulness into nobler manhood and womanhood. And there is no other way by vhich we can see rise heavenward, ■f we are not living victoriously these ittle common days we are not mak- ng any progress in true living. Only hose who climb are getting toward he stars. Heaven is for the over comers. Not that the struggle is for to be Tiade in our own strength, or the victories won by our own hands; there is a Mighty Helper always on life’s ladder with us. He does not carry us up — we must do the '’limbing — but He helps and cheers U5 and puts ever strengrth into ‘ho heart, and so aids everyone who rtrives in His name to do his best, that we may all become more than rnrusrcrs, and may at least wear the victor’s crown. A PRAYER: Our Father God, we thank Thee for the ladder as an illustration of the true Christian life. It teaches us hat a true earnest life is never easy, hat we must go up life’s ladder step by step, that we must rise by daily jfilf conquests in little things. Every fault we overcome lifts us 1 step higher. Every low tiesire 'Very bad habit^ all longings for base, Tnoble things, all wrong feelings, that ve conquer and trample down be- :ome ladder rounds for our feet, on vhich we climb upward out of grovel ing and sinfulness into nobler man- nood and womanhood. There is no other way by which we can rise heav enward. Oh help us to live victoriously these ittle common days, that we may make progress in true living.
