The Christian Education Movement of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, has an allotment of one million dollars in its budget as an aid fund , to educate boys and girls for Christ- | ian life service. .Other churches have shown South ern Methodists the way and revealed the priceless value of help to worthy men and women whose lives have been ennobled for high service for their feliowmen. The Presbyterian churches have hundreds of thousands of dollars in their loan funds trans formed each year into brain power, spiritual energy and moral fiber, the i money returning regularly into the treasury to fare forth again through the years on its mission of light and liberation. The Methodist Episcopal Church has made loans to 23,952 of her stud ents, amounting to more than $2,500, 453. To date, more than $600,000 has been returned, and these returns are coming back at the rate of $50, 000 per year. The M. E. Church, South, was among the first of Protestant denom inations to recognize the value of woman's ability and service, and the last general conference bestowed on her equal privileges of the church with its male members. In the Christian Education Movement, Mrs. i J. H. McCoy, the widow of the late | Bishop McCoy, a woman of unusual j spiritual force, high cuitui’e and re- i finement, has been given a prominent; place in the Educational Commission. She has a seat in all the conferences and her counsel is sought in shaping their plans. Realizing this, Southern Methodist women organized to promote Christ ian homes and Christian leadership in the varied lines of endeavor, and were among the founders of organ ized Christian work. Every phase of missionary, Christian and vocat ional education for women is incor porated in the work accomplished by the Woman’s Misionary Council of the M. E. Church, South, of which 1 Mis Belle Bennett, LL. D., is presi dent. The achievements of this or ganization have been marvelous. This organization not only trains leaders for Christian service, but it has found ed institutions for thia education and has supported them. Prominent among these institutions is: The Brevard Institute at Bre vard, N. C., which Institute is to re ceive from the educational drive, I $140,000. I Tha mission of Methodism has al ways been to teach, and the Christian Educational Movement will make it 1 possible to reach a larger number of i young men women who will de- i vote their lives to various forms of! Christian activities. . | A preacher founded Harvard. Of the first 119 collegcjp in America, 104 i I were Christian .colleges. Christian ! I education is the distinctly American • j idea.
