On July 4, 1826, John Adams, the second I^esident of the United States died in the ninety-first year of his age and Thomas Jefferson, the third President died on the same day at the age of eighty-three. Jefferson, on July 3, asking those around him the day of the month, had expressed the wish to live to see the dawn of the fiftieth anniversary of The Great Declaration which he had drawn and signed, while Adams, on being asked, when the bells rang and the cannon fired, if he knew what day it was. had replied, “Oh. yes, it is the glorious Fourth of July. God bless it.” So say we all. Read Psalm 66. A Prayer for The Fourth of July O God, whose name is excellent in all the earth, and Thy glory above the heavens, who as on this day didst inspire and direct the hearts of our delegates in Congress to lay the per petual foundations of peace, liberty and safety—by putting forth .“A Declaration of Independance”. We bless an(i indignify Thy glorious majesty for Thy loving kindness and protection. We pray Thee to in crease in us a soirit of love md thankfullness to Thee and a spirit of fervent zeal for our religion. Help us to improve the blessing Thou hast given us to advance here and through out all the world. O God. we thank Thee for all the ■nrivilegcs Thou hast opened 'is In this land. We bless Thee for the wise laws a;id the good 5‘nstitutions which have come to us from those who laid here the foundations of the American nation.
