Farmers whoso principal business it
is "to produce milk need well-constructed
and fully equipped buildings
to house the herd it' they are to set
the greatest profit out. of their activi
ties. For it is a well ventilated,
weatherproof stable in which the
cirtvs are most eoiuf'Ttuhh and the
feed they consume is turned into milk.
The barn shown in the accompany
ing illustration ;is designed ami
huilt for an Illinois dairytnan. It
has single stabs for :i cows, pens
6-inch extension. By this arrange
ment the calves are shut away from
their mothers and can be cared for
separately. Also by having a home
to themselves they nre less liable to
contract diseases that the youngsters
are prone to get when housed with
the older and more hardy animals.
While this barn Is rather huge, It
has no waste space. Its width permits
two rows of stalls with a driveway be
tween them and the correct amount
of space along either side for the
litter alleys. The silos house enough
silage to carry the animals through
the winter, while th mow space holds
the roughage and bedding necessary
for 50 cows.
But what is more important is that
this barn will protect the animals dur
ing the cold months keep them warm
and healthy and at a high state of
productivity. That is what makes It
a profitable investmmt.
Farm buildings such as this are
carefully planned by experienced ar
chitects. Lumber dealers, builders
and local .architects have plans for
buildings like this ready for their
clients to build f rum.

for the utrfl sire and calves,
and is arranged so that the
work of caring for the ani
mals can be accomplished at
a minimum labor cost. The
equipment consists of sani
tary steel stanchions, an au
tomatic water cup or driuk-
for each two
cows and an overhead car
rier system for the transpor
tation of feed to the mangers
and to remove the litter.
In exterior appearance the
barn is exceptional. The sta
ble walls are .f hollow tile,
set on a concrete foundation.
Above the stable floor the
building is of standard plank
frame construction with a
gamhrel roof that adds to its
beauty. Ventilation in the
mow floor is provided by four
projecting windows in the
roof, while the roof projec
tion at the end provides for
a hay carrier for mowing
away the roughage needed by
the animals throughout the
year.
It is the stable floor, how
ever, that has been given the
most thought to make it mod
ern. A suction" ventilation
system is installed, fresh air
intakes admitting air to the
stable and the suction ven
tilators on the roof carrying
out the foul air. This sys
tem of ventilation, provides
a continuous supply of fresh
air, without drafts. The sin
gle stalls are set bo that the
cows face in. The numerous
windows admit sunlight to
the gutters, helping to keep
the barn sanitary and free
from disease. A continuous supply of
fresh water Is carried to the drinking
, fountains by a water pressure system
which also provides water for hosing
out the gutters and washing the stable
floor.

For many years it has been Henry Ford's personal ambition to
make the Ford the universal car to put it within the reach of
the millions of people who have never been privileged to enjoy
the benefits of a motor car ownership.
During the past fifteen years over 7,500,000 Ford cars have
been placed in the hands of retail customers more than a mil
lion and a half of them within the past twelve months and yet
there are still millions of families who are hopefully looking
forward to the day when they can own a Ford.
And now the way is open.
Under the terms of this plan you can select your Ford Car, set
aside a small amount each week and you will be surprised how
soon you will own it. In the meantime your money will be
safely deposited to your credit in one of the local banks where
it will draw interest.
Think it over. Five Dollars will start an account. The whole
family can participate in it father, mother, brothers and sisters
each doing a little.
Why not start today. Stop in and talk it over with your local
Ford dealer. He will be glad to fully explain the details of the
plan and help you get started toward the ownership of a
Ford car.
