By thii new road, it is an easy two hours drive from Brevard to Greenville and the good people of South Carolina have seemingly at tempted to hard-surface this won-' derful road which leads to "South Carolina s own land of the t Sky." i / So much for the tourist side of this wonderful road. Transylvania County should be the late garden for Greenville, Pick l ens, and Anderson Counties. Our I road Commissioners have seen the [ w. adorn of improving the Transylva nia end of this great South Carolina highway known as the Geer High- j way, and have been able to secure I ill j aid of the State Highway Com mission and are working in concert w.th them and cutting out tfhe'lharp ? curves and steep grades on Mill Hill mountain, , One of the big business men of j South Carolina and a man of broad mind and far-seeing business vision ( as well as one who gives largely to charity and public benefactions, haa made large donations out of his pri vate means to the building of this road on the South Carolina side and ? e refer to Mr. Ben E. Geer of ^reenville, aritl the people of his na tive State have named this road af ar hmi and we people of Transylva nia County should appreciate the wonderful assistance that Mr. Geer has done in securing the building of j the road to the Transylvania line via Caesars Head and we feel that f he should be hailed is one of the I great benefactors of Transylvania ( County.. * ' | We advise everyone who can to inake theXtrip from Brevard to Greenville over, the Geer Highway by Caesars Head an<|' we will pro mise them that they Vill be amply repaid. , NOTICE OF SALE Under and by virture of the pow er of sale contained in a certain Deed of Trust bearing date October ! 30, 1922, from Geo. Mr. Roberts, who has charge of the hauling of rock on the Brevard Rosman highway, states that it will be but a few days now until the sec ond course of rock is laid qnd this \ means that one can go from Bre vard direct to Rosman on a good hard surfaced road. 'V'hitmire of Aaheville was in 'Brevard the first of the week preparing to make some additions to his viluable property adjoining . the Aethelwold Hotel. Mr. Whit mire is one of the largest property ' owners in Brevard and has done much to build up our town, ) Roy H. Morrow went to Ashe ville on Monday on business con- , nected with Western North Caroli na, Inc. Mr. Morrow has an impor tant position with that organization 7 as Camp Director and has done a wonderful work for the boys and girls camp schools of Western North Carolina during the past sea son by organizing and standardiz- , ing the various camps. These camp schools are of the greatest value to Western North Carolina and Mr. j''? Morrow is the right' man in the right place. Mis3 Miriam Silvers teeh enter tained a few friends informally at a birthday party at "Silvermortt" on Monday evening last. As it is always the case at Miss Silversteen'S entertainments, her guests had a de- >' - llghtful time and the News joins ; '' with her many friends in wishing < . her "many happy returns." 1 The many friends of Mr.' and Mrs. Robert L. Gash congratulate .them upon the birth of their son, Robert , Taliaferro Gash who was born at lv. o'clock on Monday, Oct. 6th, 1924. This is also the birthday of young Roberts father. Watkins, of Rosman has returned home for a short stay. Miss Wat kins is taking training for a regis tered nurse at the Mission hospital in Asheville. We predict a great future for Miss Watkins. Mr. Ernest Paxton, prominent f lumberman of -Rosman was' in Bre vard on business Saturday. ?the many friends of Wm. J. Wal lis, Jr., the son of Dt. and I^rs. Wal- %. ' lis will be glad to learn that he has gone into the real estate business in Southern Florida and is connected - with one of the largest real estate Rrps and will hsive his headquar- > ters at Palm Beach. Mr.. Wallis ' < has heretofore been connected with , the Virginia-Carolina Chemical Co, with headquarters in Virginia. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Noah C. ;? MSller on October 1, a daughter.
