Welch Galloway, for his ability has been recognized l?y the Speaker in appointing; Mr. Gal loway on several of the most import ant Committees in the House. Mr. Galloway has already taken a leadin.tr position in what few matters have arisen and has been prompt in introducing several bills relative to the salaries of Transylvania officials. The Legislature will not <!o much until after Gowruor McLean's inaug uration, as they are having to await the Governor's recommendations as to matters of State-wide interest. We feel sure that through Mr. Gal loway. Transylvania will take an act ive part in the deliberation and en actment of all ?'State-wide measures as well a> those of local interest. KIND WORDS FROM GREENVILLE The true friendliness and desire on the part of Greenville and Asheville to help Brevard is here illustrated by the editorial appearing" in The Green ville News and Asheville Citizen. ?* Brevard is indeed fortunate in be ing geographically situated on a straight line between these two splendid cities and still more for tunate in enjoying the friendship and support of two of the best, most pro gressive and more prosperous cities of the Carol in as. These editorials are .he public ut terances of the press of tile two cit ies and in addition, many citizens of Brevard have received ? personal let ters from prominent men of both Asheville and Greenville* which even more fully set forth the interest felt hy the citizens of said cities in Bre vard and Transylvania County. It is both the pleasure and the duty of the citizens of our Town and County t.: show their appreciation of the interest taken in us by these two powerful communities by ex tending to them every courtesy and every aid within our power. And we wish to say to the good people of both cities, that their friendship and helpful co-operation is fully appreciated by the citizens ef Transylvania County, and that we will go our full length and do all pos sible to aid in creating and maintain ing a~ stronger. better and closer in timacy and interest between the three sections, and we know that it will be of advantage to all of us from every view point. What Transylvania Coun ty lacks in the quantity of her ability, we wart AshevilL and. Greenville to know that we will make up in the quality thereof. We copy below an editorial of 1 he Greenville News of Jan. 9th, which speaks for itself: OUR FRIENDS OF BREVARD "Greenville people will o.eeplv ap preciate the spirit that prompts the Thi1 . .'\VS : %'0]YI IV-i i . ?> . : > . ^ . . . . .1 j eohipiinie:;..:?ry ?.h.:.?.s lie ys about the folks of this community. "Ail ;!;!.? talk about Greenville try ing to "alienate the ad'echous"' of the Brevard section from Asheville is rather ridiculous anyway. Perhaps it was put out in a semi-serious spirit in Asheville, princpaily for home con * ' ~ ?> ?*niKin(y in Asaeviiic, v sumption with the idea of arousing among Asheville citizens .a greater realization of their opportunity to build stronger and more permanent friendships anion;- neighboring coun ties. Be that as it may. Greenville is ? or should be ? out to make all the friends, she can, anywhere and every where. and we are certainly not go ing to stop trying to be better and better friends with the folks of Bre vard just because a State line hap pc . > io run between us. - - MVitrv'-ti-rb completion of the Greer high .Say, iSrevard becomes really a nsxt-uoor neighbor of Greenville, and this closer communication is the realization of a dream of many years of the people of the two counties. Now that we have. the read we ought tc reucujle cur efforts to increase ^ and stimulate social and commercial i relations between the sections. Why jnot a- joint picnic or some similar event during this spring or summer i I .at some convenient point on this new j j highway. ! . "We can'c have too many good friends among the people in ourj neighboring counties in North Caro lina. There is no good reason why ' there shouldn't be a great deal more ntercomn:unication and personal re ..??.tions of all kinds among the people if Greenvdle, Pickens, Transylvania, -lenderson and Buncombe Counties. ">ur road connections between these .-rtions are being improved each ar and the barriers of easy travel iv rabidly bring eliminated. Green- j pie should constantly and I onslstently try to make this city a . .r.ore attractive community from ' very standpoint, in amusements, rec i ?er.iional opportunities and as a ?.mimorcfal and shopping center, and v diould go even further and take j- .hi; inivuiliVf in heralding among all a i- neighbor? our sincere desire to be I i'riends with them and to offer them j at all times the hospitality of our 'city in its deepest and sincerest form. Greenville pleads guilty to a deep ?and abiding friendship for the people <f Brevard and Transylvania County ;;.ui wo arc more than delighted to learn through Mr. Bell's letter that | a reciprocal spirit exists in that sec tion." The Asheville Citizen has the fol lowing fine editorial which evinces i the friendly interest Asheville has in I our welfare : BREVARD'S MAIL SERVICE Something should be done to pro vide the people of Brevard with bet j to.* mail service. The Transylvania 1 capital is a thriving community in the center of territory that is being rapidly developed agriculturally, in dustrially and otherwise. The present postal service, of one mail a day, de livered by the one train a day oper ated from Asheville and Henderscn ! ville, is an unjust handicap on the business and social life of the people j 01 Transylvania County. iVTch the consent of the Corpora tion Commission, the Southern Rail way cut off one of the trains to Bre j\ard, the Southern alleging that it j could cit rate no more than one train ' daily without a loss of money that it should not be asked to meet. On the 'merits of that contention The Citizen has no information enabling it to i pass judgement; and it is -properly a matter for the determination of the | Corporation Commissioners after hearing the evidence 011 both sides. Bat, granting' "that busses, automo biles and one train now provide Bre vard with adequate accommodations ."ar the transportation of passengers j (which may or may not be true), it is still in order to inquire whether the Postoffice Department should not establish a star mail route between Brevard and Hendersonville, or Bre vard and Asheville. No doubt this proposal has al ready been discussed by the citizens of Brevard anu the postal officials; but, unless the Postoffice heads in ? Washington are willing to condemn Brevard to a mail service poorer than that of thirty years ago, as Brevar ' asserts, then public opinion in Ashe ville and Brevard should be strong i enough to bring about the operation of the star route. "It they have not already done so, i it would be a fine thing if some of Asheville's civic organizations should I offer their services to Brevard in I , pressing their claim upon the atten tion of the Postoffice Department or upon the Corporation Commission. Brevard and Asheville are bound to j.gether by many fcies. Aside from j friendship, any conditions that ham per the growth of either town are in jurious to the other. It should never ; be too late to do well. If Asheville has been slow in offering its assist ance to the sister community in an Undertaking that means much to Tv; r. vU'arin. Buncombe and the hem, the new year is 1 ? t - old for a good resolu tion backed uy prompt action. r'DTiCE OF SALE Under and by virtue of the power of sale contained in a certain Deed n Trust executed by Florence Terry, (widow) to the undersigned Trustee, ?ated 25th day of February, A.
