Neel, accompanied by j four other members of the Lrevard j Institute, motored to Weaver College | Mondav. where Mr. Neel made a very impressive talk before the student body. . Rev. Wallace Hartsell, pastor ot the Baptist, church, has gone to Stanley County to visit his father. He will be accompanied home 'o> his brother's wife, Mrs. P. P. Hartsell, who will join her husband here. -Mr. Hartsell is bookkeeper for the Sap phire Cotton Mills. Mr. and -'*rs. Hartsell expect to live in the Mrs. J. T Neelv house on Whitmire street. Misses Taylor, Plank, and Koth, of Brevard Institute faculty, on re turning from Hendersonville in a private car last Monday, were thrown from the car when it skidded and turned over. Fortunately no one was injured. Services will be held at the Presby terian church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. l)r. Sevier, of Hendersonville, will preach at that time. Robert Plunimer claims the dis tinction of being the first person in Brevard to pick up the radio message regarding the rescue of Floyd Collins. J. Sitton. The evening was very enjoyably pent it; playing games of various sorts, and in contest::. During the owning dainty refreshments wore served by the hostess. . Quite a large number of quests v.vre present to enjoy this delightful -cvial event with Miss Sitton. ADELAIDE S1LVERSTEEN entertains with luncheon Adelaide' Silversteen enter tained at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Silversteen, on Saturday with a bridge luncheon in honor of Miss Elizabeth SIvipman. Attractive decorations and favors j suggestive of the Valentine season i were carried out. At one-thirty the guests were in-j vitfd into the dining room where : beautiful and appropriate table dec- j orations greeted the eye. A most pleasing effect was afforded by the soft lights radiating from the nuriy ' lighted red candles. The heart shaped St. Valentine place cards unci the 1 favors of heart shaped baskets filled ' with dainty candies were very effect- J ive in color and suitability. An elaborate course luncheon was | served. The afternoon was delightfully] r j nut in playing bridge, there being three tables playing. ASHE MACFIE GIVES VALENTINE PARTY Ashe Macfie entertained a number of his little friends Friday evening in the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Macfie, with a Valentine party. The children enjoyed the evening] with games of various kinds. The] home was beautifully decorated | suitable to the Valentine occasion. During the evening refreshments were served consisting of ice cream roses and cakes. The dainty favors of candy in little Valentine bags gave the children much pleasure. C. i MRS. LYDAY ENTERTAINS T. E. L. CLASS The T. E. L. Class of the Baptist Sunday School met with Mrs. W. M. Lyday on Tuesday evening at 3:30, with Mrs. Lyday and Mrs. N. Poole as hostesses. An exceedingly interst ing program on "Sacrifice" was en joyed by all, after which a social I hour was spent, during which time j dainty refreshments were served. I (Thirty-four members were present. H. Norwood, who very intelligent j ly discussed the subject of the Inde pendence and Self-Government of the Colonists. She related in an interest j ing manner, facts pertaining to the ! Declaration of Independence, dwell ing on the incidents concerning the framing of a new constitution and the in::;:' ?/ration of the new government. Perkins was the de lightful hostess to the Wednesday Club February 11th. Mi's. J. A. 'Miller had charge of the current events, which were very in teresting and helpful in content. The Club went on record as unanimously approving the Woman's Building project, and of being enthusiastically in favor of the two-year extension in time for Ihe building program. Mrs. J. A. Miller, assisted by Mr:-!. - ? 0. L. Erwin, very ably discussed the commercial side of Brazil, dwelling in a most interesting manner on the different phases of coffee raising in that country. . A delicious salad course was served by the. hostess during the so cial hour. The next Club meeting will be held with Mrs. J. S. Silversteen, on Tues day, February 24th. FORTNIGHTLY CLUB Mrs. M. M. King was hostess to the Fortnightly Club Tuesday after noon. The meeting opened with the sing ing of the Club Song. Several import ant letters were read and discussed. BAPTIST SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS The Brevard Baptist Sunday School had present on Feb. 8th, a to tal. of 27(5. On Feb. 15, 248. The last Sunday was rainy.
