On arrival of all the guests, they were invited into the dining room where a delightful banquet supper ?tfas served, consisting of grapefruit, salad course, ice cream and coffee .vith whipped cream. The pretty lecorations and favors were in com memoration of Washington's birth day. Little flags sailed over the ;rape fruit and hatchets served as place cards. The following toasts and responses were given, Mrs. H. C. Ranson, club president, acting as toastmistress: Toast to husbands, Mrs. R. MUSIC LOVERS' CLUB HAS ENJOYABLE PROGRAM One of the most enjoyable club nettings of the year was the meet ing of the Music Lovers' club which was bold at the home of. Mrs. Roy Long. Tuesday evening, February 23. Mrs. Patrick N. Simons was in charge of the program, the general subject being "Piano Music ? the Sonata and Concerto.'' Mrs. Simons, ?n her usual able manner, illustrated by lecture her piano performance Assisting Mrs. Simons on the pro gram were Miss Marguerite Robert son and Mr. Alvin Moore. Mrs. Simons' selections included 'Scarialti's Pastorale Be ethoven Sr ?lata No. 1 complete, and Sonat : Pathet'que and Wald-iein Sonata.' two movements each. Mr. Moore's election was "Sonata Quasi una Fantasia." The program was (trough; to a brilliant conclusion by Miss Rob ertson's playing of the first move ment of the B flat minor piano con certo of Tschaikowsky. A pleasant social time followed the program during which the host ess served refreshments. MEN'S BIBLE CLASS ENJOYS SOCIAL GATHERING The members of the Men's Bible class of the Methodist church en joyed a social gathering in the rec reation rooms of the church, Thurs day evening, with some fifty mem bers present. It was decided to put on a class contest for membership and attend ance, with J. M. Allison as leader of one side and C. P. Wilkins leader of the other side. i \\ ry interesting talks were heard ! from Rev. E. R .Welch, pastor, Dr. J. F .Zachary, Prof. L. i>. Haynes, I Thornwell Haynes. C. P. Wilkins, I Ko^coe Nicholson, T. H. Galloway, and others. Tempting refreshments were served at the conclusion of the pro gram. WEDNESDAY CLUB Mrs. S. M .Macfie entertained the Brevard Wednesday club Wednesday afternoon at her home- on Caldwell street. The program of the day was in charge of Mrs. F. P. Sledge, her sub ject being "Makers of American Humor." Assisting Mrs. Sledge were i Mrs. H. E. Perkins, Mrs. J. M. Al I lison, Mrs. W. E. Breese, all of ? 7 I whom related interesting facts the j most of which centered around Bill | Nye and Mark Twain. J Following the program a very pleasant social time was held, during which the hostess served a delightful salad course. Two guests were pres ent and one honorary member. The contracting parties are both resi dents of Greenville. Miss Houston is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hayne Houston, of Greenville, and Mr. Zachary is well-known in Brevard, bring the oldest son oT Mr. and Mrs. K. H. Zachary. For the past year Mr. Zachary has been connected with an insurance firm in Greenville. FORTNIGHTLY CLUB | Mrs. H. A. Plummer was hostess for the regular meeting of the Fort nightly club at her home Thursday afternoon. The president appointed the pro gram committee for the ensuing year as follows: Mrs. H. A. Plum mer, chairman, Mrs. F. A. Stairctte. and Mrs. J. C. Hendricks. I Mrs. R. Y. Neel, who has been a : substitute member for the past six months, was elected to full member ship. and Mrs. J. C. Wike. a former member, was elected to fill the sc ! ond vacancy. An interesting program or^ the i subject of "Illiteracy and Heading Habits." was led by Mrs. F. A. Star rette, assisted by Mrs. Cordia King. Instructive facts were brought in by i he' ladies, telling in an interesting manner of how North Carolina ranks in the matter of illiteracy, giving causes and consequences, and of tin reading habits, public library facil ities. etc.. in the state. The hostess served a dainty salad | course during the social half-hour. Several truest? were present. The evNiing was delightfully in games and enjoying radio concerts. Refreshments were served during the evening. Another capture of ? . men was made Sunday night in the i.il.le River church, with the lights out and doors locked. Two of the men wee from Henderson county and o:n from Michigan, all of whom were bound over lo court on three charges: disturbing public wurship, public dr-inkonness, and operating a car while under, the influence of whiskey, on the highways of Tran sylvania county.
