r PERSONALS . ? -j Miss Hattie Aiken left Monday for Mount Airy, where she holds the position of "supervisor of schools. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hanaman and two daughters, Misses Eloise and Elizabeth, returned the first of the week from a motor trip of sev eral weeks to . points in Canada, Niagara Falls, Milwaukee, New {fork, Washington and the Sesqui C^ntennial at Philadelphia. Miss Elizabeth Zachary returned last week from attending summer school at Columbia University, New York. . , Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Ramsey and family are now occupying Dr. Wal lis' house formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Booth. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wood and Mrs. Forrest Derby spent Sunday in Abbeville, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Spurge Hamlin, of Asheville, spent several days this week with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Loftis. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Crary and little daughter, Mary, of Charlotte, are visiting Mrs. Crary's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Harris. Miss Earleene Poindexter re turned last week from Washington, D. C., where she has been attending George Washington University sum- ! mer school. Dan Long, of Berea College, Ky., left Monday after spending a week with his sister, Mrs. N. A. Miller, f P. J. Mahaffey, of Greenville, spent the week-end here with rela tives. His wife and little daughter, who have been visiting here the past week, returned home with him. Henry Miller had his tonsils re moved at Transylvania hospital Monday. / Mrs. Leslie Wells, of Spartanburg, spent the week-end here with Mrs. L. H. Bosse. Miss Ruth Waters is improving following her operation for append icitis at Transylvania hospital last week. Miss Evelyn B. Graham, of Ra leigh, visited friends here last week. Miss Graham expects to build a home here next spring at Lake Sega. Dr. A. C. Trowbridge, professor of geology at University of Iowa, arrived Monday to spend a few days with his mother, Mrs. Julia\ Trow bridge. He has spent the past year abroad connected with international ibil investigations with headquarters in Bagdad. His wife and two chil dren have spent the summer in Bre vard, and all 'gill return to their home in Iowa City, Iowa, next week. Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Orr, of Los, Angeles, CaL, have returned to their home after visiting Mr. Orr's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Orr, for the past three weeks. Blanton Mitchell, of Tryon, spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Mitchell. Mrs. F. P. Sledge spent Saturday in Asheville. - - \ Miss Annie Shipman and Miss Roberta Bryant left Monday for a visit with relatives in Tampa, Fla. Ernest Loftis, of Asheville, is spending ten days with his aunt, Mrs. Charles B. Deaver. Mr. Paul C. Benedict, who is mak ing his headquarters in Brevard, ip in New York for ten days on busi ness, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Tatum, of i Asheville,' spent the week-end with Mrs. Tatum's parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. S. King. Mr. and ' Mrs. Andrew Hemphill spent Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hanaman, before returning to their home in Ft. Worth, Texas. Mr. Hemphill has beei* director of music at Lake Junaluska though the summer. ' ? , Miss Kathleen Erwin, of Washing ton, D. C., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. 0. L. Erwin. Miss Reba Kitchen, of St. Peters burg, who is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Shipman left Wednes day for a visit in Anderson, S. C. Miss Alice Hayes, who underwent an operation at Brevard hospital, was able to return to her home the first of the week. Mr. Loonie Sanders, of Lake Toxaway, who was brought to Tran- ' sylvania hospital in a semi-conscious state, is reported a sstill in a very serious condition. I Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Keys, daugh ter, and son and family, of AndeH son, S. C., spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Milan Nicholson. Mr. and Mrs. Keels, who have been spending some time in Brevard, left Tuesday for their home in Co lumbia, S. C. Miss Martha Boswell, Miss Eleanor Townsend and Miss Kathleen Er win spent the week-end at Vair 1M<L Mr. and Mrs. Owen Henderson, of Charlotte, Ga., spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. Crocker were week end visitors in Shelby and Gaffney. Mrs. N. A. Miller and brother, Mr. Dan - Long, spent Friday in Sfaelby visiting friends and rela tives. Mr. J. C. Hendricks, who under went an operation for appendicitis last week at Transylvania hospital, was able to leave the hospital on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Wj J. Peterson, for merly of Asheville, are now occup ing Dr. Stokes house near Pisgah (Forest. Mr. Peterson is manager of the new bakery which will soon open on Main street. Miss Emily Upshaw, of Georgia, and Miss Lillie Crinkley, of Raleigh, are guests of Mrs. W. E. Shipraan. |Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Glazener and daughter, Martha Jane, of Hender sonville, spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Shipman. ' I Miss Martha Pinkston, of Green ville, Ga., who will teach vin the elementary school, will arrive Sat urday to spend the winter with Mrs. McMinn. Miss Cornelia Hawkins, who was operated on at Transylvania hos pital last week, is improving. Mrs. J. W. Ferguson, son and daughter, of Greenville, visited Mr. and Mrs. David Orr the past week. William Monroe, of Tryon, visit ed his sister, Mrs. Boy Delong, the past week. Miss Mary Bosse, of Spartanburg, who is spending the summer here, had her tonsils removed at Transyl vania hospital Monday. Miss Alberta Perkins, who has been attending summer school at the Appalachian Training School, Boone, is spending her vacation with her mother, Mrs. H. E. Perkins, before going to Louisville, Ky., where she will teach this year. ?' Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Taylor and three children, of Franklinton, are Wisiting Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Orr. Mr. Taylor is a brother of Mrs. Orr. L M. G. F. CLASS ENTERTAINS BALL TEAM ! The young iady members of the M. G. F. Sunday School class of the i Methodist church entertained the I Methodist baseball team Friday ev ening in the recreation rooms of the ! church with a picnic lunch. Each sermon was full of wisdom and instruction 'and w? were very sorry that the meeting closed Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. P. E.- McGuire are visiting relatives and friends this fweek in Franklin, N. C. Mr. Ben Frady*s death was quite a shock to the people. He was found dead on the front porch of his home, where he had been ceiling the over head of his porch just prior to his death. It is believed that heart trouble was the cause of his death, as he was in very good health. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Wilson have a newly married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Combs, who will board with them some time, so that Mr.' Combs may continue his work in Brevard. Mrs. Combs was Miss Margaret Al len of Holly Springs, before her mar riage. Messrs. Albert Orr and Clyde Blythe spent the day at Chimney Rock, Monday. Miss Myrtle York and little Mil dred York are visiting Mr. Wood York of Yancy County. Mrs. Guy Drake spent the week end with her son, Mr. M. H. Holli day. Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Galloway and two children of Brevard, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Wil liams, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. O. E. Blythe spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. J. L. Charles, of Landrum, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Orr of Glade Creek, attended the preaching ser vices at Enon Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Woodfin and daughter of Campbello, S. C., spent : last week with Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Woodfin. Mrs. A. E. Lyday had as her guest for dinner Sunday, Rev. Elliot. J Miss Elizabeth Morgan of Ashe ; ville, is visiting relatives here this : week. Mr. Noble Woodfin left Tuesday for Green- Cove Springs, Fla., where ,he will spend the winter. Mr. Herbert Young of Fletcher, ' spent Friday night with his uncle, ? Mr. W. A. Williams. Mr. Young has | been in the Navy for the past four years and has been home only for a Jew days.
