^ - - EAST FORK NEWS ' ; i Kev. M. Rufty preached at East Fork M. E. church Sunday, tilling his regular. appointment at ' this chu rch. Air. Dock Hubbard and family hi .e moved to Upper East Fork. Mr. Jule Reynolds is putting up a furniture shop. l>r. Cannon., of Pickens, S; C., was on East Fork Sunday. He has several patients on East Fork. The school bus still makes its 'daily trip to Kosman, though some times it is late getting there and sometimes it's late getting home. Folks on East Fork are trying a ?stunt In economy. The men, take . iust half as much tobacco for a chow as they used to, and the smok ers half their cigarettes, and they lire saving on gas now and doing some walking, and lots of them are wearing darned socks. The ladies are cutting out lip-sticks and high priced face powder, and letting their hair grow out. Some of the moth ers thought Sonny ? would have to luiv < new overalls weeks ago, hut by taking the best parts of Dad's old ones, and some nice patchwork? the overalls are still doing service. Sometimes Sissy has to go to bed early in order to have a clean dress for school next day. Our faces all look shiny like we had used laundry soap for cleansing cream. The men -do not shave but every two or three weeks, thereby saving some shaving cream ? ? We're very saving these days, and it's all to try to get our taxes paid. Oh, yes, we are going to pay them this year, some how or some w(iy, and next year we aim . to see that our property is valued at not over one hundred per cent, and we don't ?aim to pay over that if it is. The thing that hurts us is that a 1>ig percent goes to roads and we "haven't been able to get to a road in so lonj; we've forgotten just how one looks, but never mind? *- we've had a vision and sometime way on i*v a far-off day we firmly believe there Will be some places widened in our East Fork-Rosman road where ?cars can actually pass without back ing for. a long way till you can back ?out in some old road. Now wouldn't that be fine. When folks can start . out down that road and say "Well, let 'em come ? we know of at least a dozen pass places and that beats three all to pieces. Now we are'nt fussing about mud because we're used to mud? but we do need, actually need a few wide phic-s in the road. SAM B. CRAIG Attoney-at-Law MASONIC TEMPLE - PICKENS, S. C. ?Office Phone 39 Res. Phone 18 THE PRAYER CORNER ? I "Th.v , word is a lamp, unto my feet, ami a light unto my path" ? i i'salm 119:106. ] If we would learn patience, char ity, kindness, humility and forbear- i a nee, let us study the Bible this l year of 1928. ! In it are helps for all our needs, balms for all our ills, and comforts i'or all our distresses. It teaches us how to ' walk, that mi1 steps may go i" the right direc tion ; it tells us how to order our 'onvcrsation aright; it educates our souls for the sacred school of Kter nity, and 011 its grand strong prom ises we may rest our hopes of Heaven. It is a comfort when other com forts fail, a stronghold in danger, and temptation, and a light in dark vss. If wt live by the teachings of the Bible, our lives will be full of ijuiet content and true happiness and our inheritance shall be a crown of rejoicing. . "The Bible, that's the Book, the Book indeed. The Book of Books On which who looks, '? As he should do, aright, shall never need Wish for abetter light ? To guide him in the night. It is the index to Eternity; lie cannot miss Of endless bliss That takes this chart to steer his vpyage by, Nor can lie be mistook That spoaketh by this Book." A PRAYER FOR GOD'S WORD Rcvcaier, Guide, Encourager, Con firmer of purpose and of power, the 'Truth is Thine and of Thee, and Thou alone canst lead us into ,it. Th" Way is Thine ? and to Thed ? - and Thou alone canst direct us in it-.- The hope is Thine ? and for Thee ? and Thou alone canst assure us of it. Will and Strength are of Thy creation, formed to bend to ward Thee, and Thou alone knowest how to uphold them. Speak to us, Infinite Friend, out of these leaves of the past. Make each one of them vital with Thy Voice. Make each one of them personal to our need. Take of the things of Christ and show them to us. i Be our memory, Thou mindful Spirit. Be our Redeemer,-' Thou that never failest. Be our confi dence Thou that seest the end from ,'the beginning, and beyond these ) tempests of temptation, the mead ows of Heaven. In Thy name of , Majesty and Love, Amen. ! ? C. D. c.
