Friends' of Mrs. Cos Paxton, of Greenville, wll be glad to know that ^he is improved after being confined to her home on account of illness. Mrs. W. L. Carmichael, of Ports mouth, Va., is visiting her niece, Mrs. Hugh R. Walker, at the Hunt cottages. A. H. King and Frank King were visitors in Spartanburg Saturday. Miss Agnes Clayton and Joe Clay ton spent Tuesday in Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. H. Patterson, of Hendersonville, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Morris. I Mrs. W. W. Lawrence is recovering from a severe attack of flu and pneu monia, from which sne has been suffering the past two weeks. IMPORTANT BUSINESS Members of the Waightstill Avery chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution transacted a number of matters of important bus iness at the January meeting held Monday afternoon at the home of , Mrs. J. P. Deaver. | The meeting opened with the flag | salute and prayer led by Mrs. Laura ' Miller. Mrs. Deaver reported a bal ance in the treasury of $21.84, and Mrs. J. S. Silversteen made report on the sale of Christmas cards which ! netted the chapter $29.30, making a total of $51.14 in the treasury. ' Mrs E. W. Blythe read a letter from Mrs. Regan regarding the Val ley Forge bill, but the chapter de cided to take individual action on ' this matter later. A letter was read by Mrs. Blythe regarding the Me- ' morial to be erected by the national 0. A. R. to the women responsible for its organization, after which she gave a brief account of the unveil ing of the memorial tablet to Wood row Wilson, which ceremony occur red in Wilmington in December. It was decided to ask Mr. Clement to show "The Trailer" on the import ant days, such as Washington's, Lin coln's, Lee's birthdays, etc. The chapter voted to award a medal to the seventh grade student at Bre vard Institute making the highest average for the year in United States History. This award is in addition to those offered annually to the other schools in the county. Following the business meeting, a pleasant social half-hour was en joyed, during which the hostess served refreshments. The February meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. J. S. Silversteen. Hogaed is slowly impror ing. Mrs. P. R. Hogaed is able to hs up again after a severe illness. Mr. Dave Wilson has moved to the A. H. Hamet home, owned by W. E. Breese. Mr. Wilson has three children who will attend school at Dunn's Cnfck school. C. W. Hogaed, A. E. McGaha, Walter McGaha and J. L. Hogsed were recent visitors in Cedar Moun tain. Mrs. A. B. Harlee visited Mrs. J. D. Blythe last week. W. H. Hogsed visited on See Off Mountain last Saturday. J. D. Blythe has been trimming trees on See Off in the Brown or chard where Mr. Blythe now lives and has charge of the Dr. Brown prop erty. Will Perry has moved back to his old place which H. N. Carrier now owns. Hilliard Ewbanks visited at Mr. Perry's Saturday afternoon. The Linotype machine was dead ? no type could be set. The presses could not run. H. L. Wilson, of Plummer's Department Store, and Luther Pushell, of PusheH's Department Store, came to my relief, and sufficient money was raised to get the power turned on so we could print the ? * paper. I am not blaming Mr. Charley Pickelsimer. I , was behind in my payments and there is no reason why he should carry my load. Two Thousand Dollars Due Us!
