SLEDGE-RAGSDALE I Announcement is made of the mar jriage of Mr. Francis Sledge, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Sledge, of Brevard, and Miss Lyda Ragsdale, of Atlanta. Ga. The ceremony was performed in Atlanta on Tuesday, February 12. Mr. and Mrs. Sledge will visit Mr. Sledge's parents in Brevard for a few days, after which they will re turn to Atlanta, where the young couple will make their future hhome of Mrs. Ed Patton on account l of inclement weather. j Mrs. P. N. Simons was elected to membership in the club, taking the place of Mrs. V. A. Crawford, who left Brevard. The club voted to join the General Federation of Wo men's clubs. The secretary was in structed to send telegrams to Sena ! tor Galloway and Representative ; Hamlin at Raleigh regarding the ; Australian ballot measure. i The program for the afternoon was | in charge of Mrs. S. M. Macfie, on Shakespeare's Othello, reading the story of the play. A short social period and refresh ments followed the program. I MISSIONARY SOCIETY HOLDS I MEETING Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist church met in regular session Thursday afternoon, with a full attendance of members present Chairmen of the various commit tees made report on the quarter's work, and other matters of business were transacted. It was decided to have the March meeting a joint meeting with the other churches, in viting members of the Auxiliaries of the other churches to meet with the local society on this occasion. A program of especial interest will be prepared for this meeting. Commit tees were appointed to make ar rangements for the various phases of the meeting. An interesting program on the home and family council was given by Mrs. A. L. Aycock, preceding which Miss Frances Dpnton gave the scripture lesson in an interesting manner. . BREVARD TEAM FLOPS IN GAME WITH BEARCATS (CHARLES MORGAN) Last Friday the Brevard Basket eers were defeated by the Hender aonville Bearcats by a score of 13 to 23. At half time the score stood at 5 to 16. But as usual, the Blue Devil quintet came back and made more ringers than their opponents. White, the Bearcat's neat little forward, was easily the star of the game. Bil IMorgan, Brevard's usual star man, caged eleven of the total thirteen. Coach Tilson saw fit to remove his first string men and substitute the; second squad. Osborne as guard, Johnson as forward and Hinton as center. Bill Morgan and T. J. Mc Call were the only men to play all the game. Etowah won a decisive victory off the Bearcats' second squad by a score of 28 to 4. HOOSIER COMPANY OPENS ? CENTRAL OFFICE HERE Hoosier Engineering company, in charge of the lines for the Carolina Power and Light company through this county, has opened offices in the rooms over Davis-Long Drug store. Furniture and fixtures were moved into the new offices Tuesday. Mr. H. H. Rogers, long with the Hoosier people, is in charge of the office, while Mr. Pithoud is in charge of the construction work along the lines.
