THE PRAYER COMER I RAIN t "It isn't raining rain to me ? It's raining daffodils; In every dimpled drop I see "VVihl flowers on the hills." Boys and girls often have a way of fretting and complaining about the weather, and thi3 attitude is not confined to boys and girls, more's the l>ity. If rain interferes with golf or fishing, or with a party or a ride, if it breaks up a ball game or tennis, or at all interferes with our pleas ure, we have a way of getting all in a fret and a frown. But Nature has bigger things to account for than our little affairs and pastimes. It would be fortun ate for us all, boys and girls, if we could get the point of view of Mr. Robert Loveman, "It's raining daffo dils," all the lovely things of Nature, trees, plants, flowers and animals are dependent on rain. Don't ever frown when you wake up in the morning and find it raining. Just because >ou may have to stay indoors, or change your plans for the day, rain is making the "valleys stand so thick in the corn that they laugh and sing." Rain is filling springs and wells; rain is sending the little streams singing down in the hills, and danc ing over the rapids; rain is refresh ing the land when it is weary; rain is putting sap into the trees and moisture into the earth; rain is col oring the sky with lovely clouds and carpcting the land with flowers. "The clouds of gray engulf the day, And overwhelm the town ? It isn't raining rain to me, it's raining roses down." And what would old earth do with out roses! Ah me! No daffodils, no roses, no lilies, no pansies, no glad riot of wild flowers on the hills! l.ife would be dull indeed without thes<\ wouldn't it, children. And no rait' bow to tell us of God's loving can-, and His great beauty! It is tlu sun shining through the rain drops that makes the beautiful bow in the heavens, which we all stop to admire, no matter how busy we are. So goodness, beauty, love may all shine out through our troubles and disappointments and sorrows, if on ly we can see God behind them, shin ing through. Indeed, life would lose much of charm and variety and in terest but for the clouds, the storms, the disappointments that come to us, and the heavens would lose the rain bow liues but for winds and rains and lowering clouds. It is a good thing for us some times that rains drive us inside and throw us on our own resources. We oucrht to take more time to read and to think. Parents ought to be more with their children, to talk things over and to advise and to teach and to love. If the rain succeeds in making this possible it is like raining sweet .lowers in the home. "It isn't raining rain to mo But fields of clover bloom, Where every buccaneering bee May find a bed and room, A health unto the happy, A fig for him who frets! It isn't reining rain to me, It's raining violets." A PRAYER We thank Thee, 0 Lord, for the stormy days! When the rain falls, and the wind blows, and the clouds move in regiments across the sky, they somehow seem to say the thing that cries in us for utterance, and cannot be expressed. The glittering lights of a raining night shine so weird and wonderful that we leave the dusty day and narrow earth and find a world of flash and gleam and shadow. The fresh and cool air of the storm soothes to rest our troubl ed spirits. The shock of thunder breaks the tension of tired spirits and jars us free again. The patter of the rain drops on the roof lulls us to sleep, both strong and sweet. The home seems more filled with comfort and content, because the storin beats without. And when the clouds break and the king of heavens oomes forth in splendor and drive his frowning foes from the sky he paints a gorgeous glory in the west, and bids us take one rapturous glimpse through Heaven's gate while we catch our breath and think of glor ies unrevealed. We thank Thee for the rain, dear Lord. Amen. ? C. D. C. EAST FORK NEWS ! Beginning the first Sunday eve ning at 8 o'clock and continuing on through last Sunday evening, Rev. J. P. Mason preached each evening at the Methodist church at this place. He prearhed wonderful sermons, just straight pure religious talks that were a real inspiration to all those who attended. We feel sure that those of our folks who did not attend missed a great deal. We are mighty glad to have had Mr. Mason with us and for the privilege of hearing him preach. For some weeks we have not writ ten to our paper, not because we had nothing to tell but partly because we've been busy tending our own business and let other work come first. Misses Lenora and Myrtle Whit mire, of Texas, daughters of Witzel Whitmire, visited their aunt, Mrs. H. E. Whitmire, some weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gillespie, of Lancaster, Ohio, visited their uncle, B. A. Gillespie, about three weeks ago'. > ... Our Guarantee OUR guarantee is to insure customers an ex cellent banking service.
