The babe died in the hospital at Landrum and was brought and buried in the Reid cemetery. Rev. Judson Corn conducted the' funeral service. The many friends of Mrs. Hattie Reid will be glad to know she is im Provir r in health. Chappell is keeping at his filling station as a pet, a live and verly large rattlesnake, but I think it is for sale. Mrs. S. R. Robinson, of Tryon, was among friends here over the week-end. We were pleased to see Mr. and Mrs. Thad Syler in our village Sun day. Mack Reid and Henry Chapman, of Quebec, were among friends here Sunday. Those interested will be glad \< know the surveyors, who have boo.' trying to locate a railroad into the timber belt in this section, report the road can be put through. The many friends of Henry Ar rowood. of Lake Toxaway, were sor ry to hear of his illness and wish for him a speedy recovery. Mrs. C. W. Some of the folks are looking for ward with great pleasure to their trip to the association. We hope everyone who is inter ested in the calling of a pastor for our church will bear in mind that next Sunday is the dav set apar for that purpose. Mrs. Sarah L. Norton died early Friday morning at her home Ik' re, following an illness of the pa. ' .wo months. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Brevard Methodist church, con ducted by the pastor, Rev. A. L. Ay cock, assisted by Rev. W. S. Price, Jr. and Rev. E. R. Pendleton, pas tors in the county. Interment was made in Oak Grove cemetery. Mrs. Norton, who was 87 years of age, was said to be the oldest woman in Brevard. Her husband, who was Fuller Norton, preceded her to the grave 40 years ago. She was a na tive of Polk ?dnty, but had lived in Transylvania county over since her marriage, about 60 years. She was known as the oldest member of the Brevard Methodist church, of which church she had been a devout mem ber ever since living in this county. She was a conscientious Christian woman, greatly beloved" by a host of friends and relatives, who are left to mourn her loss. Surviving are three sons and two daughters, Felix Norton and Miss Daisy Norton, of Brevard; Cliff Nor ton of New London, Ohio; David Norton, of Waynesboro, Va.; and Mrs. Belle Gardner, of Chicago, Illinois, besides twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, a sis ter, Mrs. J. A. McGuire, of Hender sonville, and two brothers, Frank Hill, of Cashiers, and Charles Ilill, of Tulsa, Okla. Pallbearers were: R. L. Nicholson, B. W. Trantham, J. H. Pickelsimer, Fred Johnson, J. C. Wike and Cray Morris. JAMES FRED HAMLIN BURIED LAST FRIDAY Little James Fretf Hamlin, the 7 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harlow J. Hamlin, of Flat Rock, died at his home Thursday shortly after being run over by an automobile driven by a young boy who lived at that place. Funeral service was held Friday aft ernoon. The little boy was a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Tinsley, of Flat Rock, and had a number of relatives ^nd friends living in this county. The tragic death of the little boy cast a pale of gloom over the en tire community. GOOD REPORT FROM U. D. C. LIBRARY FOR LAST WEEK Library report for the past week gives record of 180 adult books and 39 juvenile books being taken out during the week, with 7 new mem bers enrolled. A total attendance of 346 was recorded for the week, with a total of 219 books in circu lation. NEPHEW OF FORMER EDITOR OF THE NEWS VISITS HERE Starr M. Miner, wife and two children, of Chicago, are visiting Mrs. W. F. B. Wright. Mr. Min< r is a nephew of the late J. J. Miner, former beloved editor of this paper. The Miners returned with Mrs. Wright from a family reunion which was held recently at Coldw.Mer, Mich. Mr. Miner is connected with news papers in Chicago and nearby rities. and is an officer in the Englewood Typesetting company, one of the big gest concerns of its kind in the ro-i try. While here, the Miners visiu -I all the points of interest and were loud in their praise of this section, and declared that they would here after spend their summer vacations in Brevard.
