ROB I nson-blackstock A wedding of interest in the com munity was that of Miss Kathleen Blackstock, of Weaverville, to Mr. Douglas McGuire Robinson, of Mar shall, the ceremony being performed at the Weaverville Methodist church Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Ho:~t Btackwell, head of the department of Bible at Mars Hill college, offici ated at the ceremony. The bride, who is the daughter of Mrs. J. L. Savage, of Edenton, has been head of the violin department of Mars Hill college for the past year. ?!??< The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. W. F. Robinson, of Mars Hill. For two years he was teacher in the Rosman school, and made numerous friends during his stay here, and has been a frequent visitor in this community since that time. He will be principal at Mars Hill the coming year. After September 1, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson will be at home at Mars Hill. .c ENJOYABLE PARTY Little Misses Edith and Inez Rufty were joint hostesses at a party uiven at the home of their parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. E. Rufty in honor nt' their birthdays Friday afternoon. Many interesting games were played, after which refreshments of lemon ade. ice cream and cake were served. Kdith ami Inez were recipients of many nice and useful gifts. Those present for this occasion were: Wilda and Forrest Reece, John Frank Corbin, Hazel and Virgil Bar rett, Myrtle and Reba Rogers, Kath erine Powell, D. H. and Stanley Win chester, Ruth and Clyde Rice, Jun ior and Loonie Sisk, and Joseph ?Mason of Brevard. Misses Pauline Powell and Ethel Manley assisted the hostesses in the games and refreshments. MISSIONARY SOCIETY The Woman's Missionary Society met at the home of Mrs. L. M. Wat kins Monday afternoon with nine members present. The meeting was presided over by the president, Mrs. G. C. McClure. Readings were given by Mrs. Jor dan Whitmire, Miss Pauline Leath ers and Miss Lennie Manley. The meeting was closed with prayers, be ing opened by Miss Lennie Manley and closed by Mrs. M. C. Sumerel. Xext meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Jordan Whitmire, on Monday, September 2. PAINFUL ACCIDENT Lambert D. Gillespie suered a painful accident while attending the Gillespie reunion last Sunday. Mr. (Jillespie was seated in an automo bile and just as he moved his hand out from his side, someone thought lessly slammed the door of the car, resulting in a near amputation of two fingers on the hand of Mr. Gil lespie. Mrs. J. W. Current and Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Current returned to their homes at Statesvlile Saturday after spending several days visiting here. R. : L^wis. 1 GILLESPIE REUNION On August 18 the Gillespie re union was held at the home of Rev. W. N. Gillespie. The day might also be termed a birthday celebration, since Mr. Gillespie has just passed his seventy-first milestone. However, if, as some say, "A man is only as old as he feels," he must be about six teen. Mr. Gillespie is still healthy and hearty, works hard and enjoys to the fullest. The noon day meal was served out in the grove near the house. A crowd estimated at more than two hundred were present to enjoy the feast. In the afternoon quite a number of the crowd went to East Fork for! a swim. Uncle Bill, as he is famil iarly known, put on a bathing suit and plunged into the stream as gaily as the bathing beauties, and seemed as much at home in the water as on land. This reunion, which is an annual affair, was pronounced the greatest yet held. Everyone expressed a de sire to be present again next Aug ust. Carl Galloway of Gloucester, was a dinner guest of his mother, Mrs. Sarah Galloway. Saturday.
