Pickel -simcr as joint hostess. The subject presented was Italian folk music. Miss Eva Call and Mrs. J. F. Winton both read articles. The Italians are among the most talented and music loving people of the world. Unlike many other na tionalities, the masses of ignorant and otherwise uncultured people, know and sing readily selections from the greatest compositions. For this reason it is difficult to draw a line between folk music and that of known composer?. In the early days of tho chu eh the Gregorian chants were taken by the people and fitted to new words. In later years popular airs from opera were treated in a like manner. "Santa Lucia," "0 Sole Mio," and "Finiculi-Finicala,'' although not true folk song, are among the most popular and widely sung in Italy. Airs. Winton sang "0 Sola Mio" and directed the singing of the other two by t'- > club. Mr. Alvin Moore sat? "Tickv, Ticky, Tack."
