CHAIN STORE MEN
r ARRESTED IN S.C.
(Greenville News, Feb. 22)
5 "Columbia, Feb. 21. ? Chain stores
i U Florence, Union and Spartanburg
t have been fined for selling short
i yeight packages within the last few
. Weeks, J. W. Shealy, state commis
, sioners of agriculture, commerce and
[ industries, said here today in an
, nouncing that prosecutions against
ither chain stores on same charges
? are now awaiting trial.
"Mr. Shealy said that in each in
stance the store was fined $26 and
warned not to violate the weights
and measures laws again. More se
vere penalties, he said, are in store
for second offenders.
"Resident inspectors in each of the
ten districts in thiB state are enabl- t
ing his department to keep in close j
touch with violations, Mr. Shealy
aid. The violators in Florence, i
Union and Spartanburg were appre-J
hended by three inspectors and tried
before local magistrates.
"The enforcement of the weights
and measures law is under the juris- j
diction of my department, Mr.
Shealy said here today. "I expect to ?
? ee that our people get 16 ounces for :
a pound. The inspectors employed j
by this department have been in- j
st acted to watch all articles of food '
in package form found offered for ?
sale on the markets in this state and
f expect to prosecute wherever the
law is violated. I consider this one
of the most important laws to be en- 1
forced by this office and I expect I
to see that it is complied with
throughout South Carolina."
IN MEMORY OF
MRS. W. N. GILLESPIE
Since the anjrels took my mother j
home to heaven,
Life has been so very sad and lone
to me.
But I'm trusting in the God she
loved so well,
And some sweet day my mother's
face again I'll see.
Oh, my mother! how 1 miss her!
since the angels bore her happy
soul away;
In the Land of Love I'll meet her.
By the Throne of God I'll greet her,
1 will meet my precious mother some
sweet day.
Many loving hands are kind a.id cood
to me.
As the toilsome homeward journey
I pursue,
But I miss my mother as the days
go by.
For there is no friend like mother,
noae so true.
Swiftly now 1 pass the milestones
one by one,
By and by the glory gates with joy
I'll see,
Then among rejoicing friends in
that sweet home,
Will my o>vn dear mother gladly wel
come me.
