Be It Resolved, That we, the re publicans of Transylvania county ir convention assembled, on this th< Kith day of May, 1930, adopt th< following as the Platform of the re publican party in the campaign ir Transvlvania County, in the yeai 1930:' 1. That we, the republicans of the county of Transylvania, do endorse the national administration of Pres ident Hoover and favor immediate passage of the tariff act now pending before congress and believe that its immediate passage is the only thing to revive business. We heartily endorse the republi can state platform and particularly that part of the state platform which refers to tax conditions in North Car. olina, and we pledge in Transylva nia county a continuation of the pro gram of "economy, which has been followed by the republican officials of the county during the last two years and has brought about a great reduction in taxes. 2. We believe in the election of road overseers in the various town ships by popular vote of the people therein and that the county roads be worked by the township as a unit and that the board of road commis sioners of Transylvania county be abolished, and allow this duty to fall upon the county commissioners. We advocate the financing by the state government of the state public school system, thus allowing small counties like Transylvania to be aided by the large centers like Asheville and other big towns in North Carolina, which are existing off rural communities like Transylvania. 3. We condemn the absentee vot ing law and point out that it leads to fraud in the primaries and in the general election and is cutting the moral fibre of our community and stirring up a strife and bitterness that can never be eradicated as long as such law is prone to abuse. We urge this platform as binding on the candidates of the republican party to be chosen hereafter.
