I BREVARD HANDS BALFOUR EXTRA HEAVY TROUNCf Long, Drawn Out Affair Give) Local Ball Team Most Scores of Season Brevard gave Balfour their seconc PC i decisive defeat Saturday at the tet ter's home, when a 24-11 score was piled up by the locals ia a game that lasted from "some time aftei lunch time 'til some time aftei supper time" or dinner time or whatever one chooses to call the eve ning meal. On Saturday previous, at Brevard, the locals ran up a score of 16-4 against the Balfour aggregation, when, as was the case in Saturday's game, the local boys hit everything that cams along. Batting averages for Brevard boys went up high in Saturday's game, every man on the team getting one or more hits for a "total of 20. Clayton, all-round Brevard player, held Balfour in hand well throuh out the game, keeping hits scattered with the exception of two innings, when four and three runs were scored. Batting honors went to J. Sch^ch ner and Clayton, the former getting thvco walks, three singles and a horse collar; Clayton getting one homer, .two doubles, one single, one free trip and two charged against Kim out of his many times up. Gus Tebell and Obie Davis added to the team's winning. These two Sapphire counsellors will play with the locals during the remainder of the camp season. Enka Here Saturday Doc Brewton will bring his Rayon Workers here Saturday afternoon. Heretofore, Doc's boys have made hits rather scarce for the Brevard bunch, but with the stride hit by the entire Brevard team in the past few games, a different story is ex pected Saturday. The game will be gin promptly at four o'clock. BREVARD BAR ASS'N. i Set a stout heart to a steep hill i side. Isn't it pleasant to hear of some thing nice that somebody has said I about you behind your back? t A gem is not polished without rubbing, nor a man perfected with > ' out trial. THE PRAYER. COWER I' THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT Gal. 5:22 FAITH * What does St. Paul mean here by FAITH? "There are two meanings to the word: Faith in God, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is the foundation of our fidelity or trustworthiness in the life jof service, and that service is best expressed in the well known answer I to the question, What is thy duty towards God? My duty towards ] God is to believe in Him, to fear :Him, and to love Him, with all my heart, with all my mind, with all my soul, and with all my strength; to .worship Him, to give Him thanks, to put it ly whole trust in Him, to call ,upon Him, to honour His Holy Name and His Word, and to serve Him truly all the days of my life." There is a monastery and refuge for travelers on the summit of the Alpine Pass of St. Bernard in Switzerland. There the monks live all the year through, devoting them selves to the entertainment of strangers and in the winter going forth with their great dogs, trained for the purpose to help travelers lost in the snow. In the buildintr there is a stained window, represent ing three dogs who perished in try ing to succor travelers. At the foot are the words, Fideliten, Fortilen, Feliciten, faithful, strong, happy. Pray then to the Holy Spirit for three things that you may be Trust worthy, Strong and Cheerful in God's Service! But Faith is not merely the foun dation of duty and service, it is the only support in those three-fold trials which will meet you at every step, and grow in number and force. But remember the promise, "As thy days so shall thy strength be." "First comes spiritual suffering ? which we call temptation and sin. In the first, trust your Heavenly Father. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you that "there hath no temp tation taken you, but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempt ed above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." "Seek His help to endure temp tation" that you may "receive the Crown of Life" and pray that He t may be with you as He was with j i'our Saviour, in the wilderness of j :his life of temptation. "And then when perhaps you have i fallen into sin, and are tempted to I iespair of forgiveness, seek Him for the blessed assurance cf full and free pardon through the precious blood of Christ, which He will teach 'you is yours. Yes, youra, though you have fallen as deeply as a David or a Magdalene, wandered as far as the Prodigal, and given way in mo ments of weakness like Peter ? yours on the simple condition of Faith, ! Penitence and Confession, so that you need never be discouraged. (To be continued) A PRAYER Dear Lord, I cry to Thee. Thou knowest the fears and doubts, Thou knowest the despair and the crying, for Thou was man on earth. 0 hold me from gloom and sadness. Make me strong and trustful. Kill my doubts. Hold me near to Thee, j Speak to me words of cheer. Draw me out of the mire of sin and unbe lief, and place my feet upon the rock of Faith and Love. De&r Lord, give me confidence in Thee. Surely Thou hast spoken and I cannot doubt Thee. I rest on Thy promises. I know Thy Spirit within Dears witness with my spirit that I am a child of God. Let me rest in this and not be afraid. 0 Dear Lord, when doubts and fears assail, let me cling yet more closely to Thee. When the storms of passion rage, let me look to the rock that is higher than I. When 1 seem so poor and unworthy, let me fix my eyes on Thy Glory and hear Thee say I am Thine, and when the struggle is over, when the growing time is done, then, dear Christ, re ceive_me, completely saved, into Thy home"" and mine. For Thy Precious Blood's sake. Amen. ? C. D. C. People who denounce the churches really ought to look inside them once in a while ? Cincinnati Times-Star.
