JORDAN WHITMIRE, Manager WELL KNOWN MAN DEAD AT SOUTH CAROLINA HOME Lawrence Murphy, aged 64 years died of Brights disease in the Sto Mile hospital on Saturday, July 26 Funeral services were conducted bj Rev. Jesse C. Owen and burial was made with Masonic honors Sundaj at Keowee church, near Pickens. Mr. Murphy was twice married, his first wife having been Miss Kanie Galloway, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wash Galloway of Rosman, and sister of Mrs. Lee R. Fisher. Six children survive this union. About eight years ago he was married to Mrs. VVm. Cantrell, ot Pickens, who survives him. LEON GILLESPIE IN NARROW ESCAPE LAST SATURDAY Leon Gillespie, traveling sales man of Asheville ,had a narrow es cape from death Saturday night when the Ford car he was driving caught on fire and completely burn ed, with the exception of the front casings. Mr. Gillespie struck the battery on a large rock in the East Fork section, causing a short circuit and the car immediately caught fire. Several hundred dollars worth of samples were completely destroyed. It could not be learned if any insurance was carried on the car. The tank, filled with gasoline, re mained intact, not exploding. REVIVAL SERVICES AT EAST FORK CHURCH Rev. W. E. Rufty is holding re vival services at East Fork M. E. church each evening. The public is invited to attend any and all of the services. CAMPING TRIP IS ENJOYED BY THE YOUNGER PEOPLE A party of the younger 3%t en joyed a camping trip over the week-end at Toxaway Falls. Chaperones for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Glazener and Mrs. Josephine Allen. Other guests enjoying this occa sion were: Misses Edith and Geneva Mull, Ola Paxton, Dora Garren, Frances Edens, Belle Fisher, Mae Jackson and Ruby Glazener; Messrs J. R. Manley, Fred, Tom and Paul Stroup, E. M. Collins, Ed Staton, Charles and Tom Glazener, Wallace Collins, Roy and Coy Fisher and Brodus Henderson. I BUTLER-POWELL Miss Mamie Butler and Mr. Leason Powell were quietly married in South Carolina Tuesday, Rev. Nath an Chapman, officiating. Mrs. Pow ell is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Georj-e Butler, while the groom is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Powell. SOCIAL ENJOYED BY YOUNG PEOPLE OF BAPTIST CHURCH Members of the Rosman B. Y. P. U. held a social at te home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Lewis Friday night. This proved to be one of the larg est socials of the season. After a number of games had been played refreshments of ice cream and cake were served to forty-five guests present. CEMETERY CLEANING AT THE UPPER EAST FORK Everybody who have relatives and friends buried at Folly Cemetery, Upper East Fork, are requested to meet at the cemetery August 2nd to clean the cemetery. JOINT HOSTESSES ENTERTAIN WITH SHOWER A shower was given in honor of the recent bride, Mrs. Claude Glaz ener, last Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. C. J. Eldridge, Mrs. E. A. Glazener and Mrs. Eldridge being joint hostesses. Mrs. Glazener re ceived a large number of very pretty and useful gifts. Lemonade and fruit salad were served as refreshments. B. and Walter Rogers, Vandc Morgan, Elvin Edney, Girtha Wat TWO TROOPS DIVIDE JAMBOREE HONORS (Scout Reporter) The first of our Inter-patrol Jam borees came to a dramatic close in ^he form of a draw, July 18. The Royal Bengal Tiger Patrol, com posed of a team of only two boys, | won the two important events: Sig naling pnd knot tying. The patrol was represented by Jack Miller and Ralph Galloway. The Silver Fox Patrol won the other two events: First Aid and inspection. This pa trol was represented by Fred Mil ller, Mark Orr, Craig Misenheimer, 'Jackie Morgan, Nathan McMinn and jJimmie Deaver. The third compet ing patrol Tieaded by Hinton Mc Leod was the Wolf patrol, composed of Hinton McLeod, Henrv Pierson. John Miller, Mack Allison and Richard Grimshaw. They won sec ond place in First Aid. The other second places were: In spection, R. B. Tigers: knot tying, Silver Fox; signaling, Silver Fox. The Beaver patrol was not repre sented at all due to unavoidable reasons.
