Mrs. Carl Merrill and children of Umatilla, Fla., are visiting the for mers father, T. L. Snelson. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Catchart and daughters, Eleanor, Lita and Sarah, of Anderson, S. C., spent Sunday with Miss Reubenia Nicholson. Miss Louise Williams of Lake Toxaway was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Short and Misa Virginia Powell during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Saltz of St Petersburg, Fla., are visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Salt'/!. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tinsley of Easley, S. C., are visiting Mrs. Tinsley's brother, R. H. McCali. Mr. Tinsley will return shortly to Eas ley, while Mrs. Tinsley will remain for several weeks as guest of her brother. Mrs. W. F. Short, Misses Carrie Lee, Kathryn. Virginia and L. E. Powell, Jr., made a business trip to Asheville on Saturday. Alec Mull of Morganton, was the week-end guest of Rulfin Wilkins. Miss Pansy Rhinehart of West Asheville is the guest of Miss Al nieta Waters. Harold Bradley is spending some time in Brevard. Dan English, who is connected with the Western Union in New York City, is spending a weeks vaeation with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Tom English. Miss Mary Osborne Wilkins and Ruffian Wilkins returned home Sun day after a short motor trip to the ' Eastern part of the state. Miss Wil t kins stopped at Concord to visit friends while the latter continued [the trip to Raleigh, returned by Boone where he was joined by a co teacher of Shelby schools. Miss Isobel Reese, who has been the truest of Miss Violet Henry for a week, left Monday for her home in Asheville. Expected Thursday are Mrs. Cy rus Durand Chapman of Washing ton, and her son, Mr. John Chap man, connected in diplomatic ser vice abroad and now on a vacation in the States, to spend two weeks with the former's niece, Mrs. David Ward. Miss Ruby McKinna of Hender sonville is visiting her aunt, Mrs. F. G. Gallemore. Mrs. J. S. Silversteen and Miss Dorothy Silversteen spent Monday in Asheville. Miss Ludie Kinkead of Louisville, I<y., is visiting her cousin, Mrs. John F. Henry on West Probarte St. Miss Louise Brunot of Greensburg, Pa., and Mr. Tom Barclay, and Mr. Charles Barnhardt, motored to Bre vard this week and are spending some time at Chestnut Hill Farm. Mrs. Cos Paxton was a business visitor to Greenville Monday. Miss Corrinne Batson returned to her home near Brevard last week, having spent a number of months in different cities in California. Gerald and John Marchant, who have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cos Paxton, have re turned to their home in Greenville. Mrs. Vashti Rhodes of Greenville returned to her home Sunday, hav ing spent the past two weeks as guest of her sisert, Mrs. W. A. Al- i lison. Miss Sarah Nesbitt visitsd Miss Hazel Brewer Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Orr and fam ily of Pisgah Forest, and Miss Elsie Lyday visited Mr. and Mrs. John Reed irecently. Mrs. Lee Moody was the honor guest at a dinner giv^n at her home at Blantyre Sunday on the occasion of her 61st birthday. All the guests, including her six children and their families, brought well-filled baskets, and after the dinner the day was spent peasant with music ana other diversions: The guests numbered more than a hundred, many coming from far distanced to be present at this hap py occasion. Asheville and Mrs. Cabria Rowl of Glen Alpine, N. C., were guests of Mrs. S. A. Weilt last week. Bill Bice of Chattanooga, Tenn., visited Mrs. W. J. Bice in Brevard last week. Misses Mamie and Sadie Mull are visiting relatives in Morganton. Misses LaVerne Weilt, Reba Kitchin, and Mrs. Carolyn Glazener spent Thursday in Asheville. Mrs. J. M. Kilpatrick, Mrs. W. J. Bice and Bill Bice spent one day last week visiting Mrs. Thomas Teague in Asheville. Mrs. Roy Kanipe and young son, Jimmie, of Graham, N. C., are visit ing the former's parentst Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Jollay and sisters, Misses Mamie and Vinnie Jollay of Cleve land and Shelby Ohio, respectively, and Mrs .Charles Jollay of West Asheville, were the guests of Mrs. Cordis King last week. HITCH HIKER BUMS AIR RIDE HERE LAST MONDAY Skad Miller, of Toxaway, was hitch hiking to Asheville last Mon- 1 day. Not many automobiles were going in that direction. Arriving at the Brevard airport just as Lloyd Marshall was preparing to take off for Asheville, Miller thumbed the pilot, and asked for a lift to the mountain metropolis. Marshall told the hiker to hop in, and off they went. Not, however, until Miller took time to shd:e hands with all the peo ple about the port, for it was his first ride in the air, and he was not certain that he would ever see his I friends again, so he shook hands ?
